Ubisoft Reveals PC Specs and Requirements for Upcoming Title Far Cry 6

Ubisoft has just revealed the minimum and recommended PC specs requirements for their upcoming AAA title Far Cry 6, the most recent installment in their open-world first-person shooter series. Going back as far as the first Far Cry, the action-packed franchise has always been lauded for gritty and expansive open-world design which is best experienced with the graphical settings cranked up to the max. With this recent news, we finally get to know what would it take to reach the bare minimum for most gamers to experience the island nation of Yara and the turmoil within to its fullest.

In Far Cry 6, you will fight to liberate the island nation of Yara from its oppressive dictator, Antón Castillo. Ahead of the game’s October 7 launch, make sure your PC is ready by checking out the minimum and recommended PC settings. For all the settings listed below, make sure your PC is running Windows 10 (20H1 version or newer, 64-bit only), and that your system is compatible with DirectX 12 (DX12):

MINIMUM PC SETTINGS

  • 1080p, 30 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 – 3.1 GHZ or Intel i5-4460 – 3.2 GHZ
  • GPU: AMD RX 460 – 4 GB or NVIDIA GTX 960 – 4 GB
  • RAM: 8 GB (Dual-channel mode)
  • Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended)

RECOMMENDED PC SETTINGS

1080p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X – 3.8 GHZ or Intel i7-7700 – 3.6 GHZ
  • GPU: AMD RX VEGA64 – 8 GB or NVIDIA GTX 1080 – 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)
  • Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended)

1440p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X – 3.8 GHZ or Intel i7-9700 – 3.6 GHZ
  • GPU: AMD RX 5700XT – 8 GB or NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER – 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

  • 1440p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing On
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X – 3.7 GHZ or Intel i5-10600 – 4.1 GHZ
  • GPU: AMD RX 6900XT – 16 BG or NVIDIA RTX 3070 – 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)
  • Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

4K, 30 FPS, DirectX Raytracing On

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X – 3.7 GHZ or Intel i7-10700k – 3.8 GHZ
  • GPU: AMD RX 6800 – 16 GB or NVIDIA RTX 3080 – 10 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)
  • Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

Breaking down the specs

The minimum PC settings which would get players the baseline experience of 30 FPS at 1080p resolution without DirectX Raytracing would require a 4 core CPU at the very least, with Ubisoft recommending an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or an Intel i5-4460 running at base clocks of 3.1 GHZ and 3.2 GHZ respectively. For the GPU, either an AMD RX 460 – 4 GB or Nvidia GTX 960 4 GB would be more than enough for a “previous-gen console experience”. As for memory and storage requirements, Ubisoft recommends at least 8 GB of RAM running in dual-channel and highly recommends an SSD but can scrape by with at least a 60 GB HDD.

Next step would be for 1080p/60 FPS gaming still with DirectX Raytracing turned off. CPU requirements take quite a leap with AMD users being recommended at least a Ryzen 5 3600x or an Intel i7-7700. Here is where Intel’s single core supremacy from past CPU generations shine, with an almost 5 year old CPU going head to head with AMD’s entry level chip from 3 years ago. As for the GPU, an RX Vega 64 – 8 GB or an NVIDIA GTX 1080 GB is recommended. Lastly, system storage requirements still call for a 60 GB SSD and an additional 8 GB for RAM, totaling to 16 GB of memory running in dual-channel.

Upping the resolution to 1440p at 60 FPS would now require current-gen or at the very least previous-gen counterparts to run the game smoothly. An AMD Ryzen 5600x or Intel’s i5-10600 paired with either an RX 5700XT or an RTX 2070 Super is recommended for the high-resolution and the 60 FPS sweet spot. As with almost all other AAA titles, this is where extra storage (and a fast one at that) becomes beneficial. Far Cry 6 would require at least 37 GB for those who want to load their game with optional HD textures.

In the same tier of 1440p/60 FPS, players would also have the option of turning on DirectX Raytracing granted that they have either a Ryzen 7 5800X or an Intel i7-10600 paired with an RX 6900XT or RTX 3070, Finally, for those looking for a current-gen console experience of 4K resolution at 30 FPS, the cream of the crop for both the CPU and GPU is highly recommended, with the 5800X from AMD and a i7-10700k from Intel being required. AMD’s 16 GB card, the RX 6800 or Nvidia’s RTX 3080 would be able to handle 4K@30 FPS according to Ubisoft. One important thing to take note of as well is that all these recommended settings were done with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (AMD’s FPS boosting feature, not unlike Nvidia’s DLSS) feature turned off, so some may still be able to squeeze more frames out of their gaming rigs.

Ubisoft also mentioned a number of customization features that people should expect once the game comes out such as an option for uncapped framerate, “in-depth” customization options, multi-monitor and widescreen support, and an in-game benchmark for performance analysis.

Far Cry 6 will put players in control of Dani Rojas, a former soldier in the island nation of Yara who is trying to topple the dictatorship of “El Presidente” Antón Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito who came to widespread recognition from TV dramas Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Far Cry 6 is set to release for Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, Stadia, and Amazon Luna on October 7, 2021.
