Warzone Crashing with Error 6.154? Try These Fixes

There is a recent surge in the reports by the users that Warzone started to crash with error 6.154. The issue is usually reported to occur after a game’s update. There are mix disc read errors like:

Warzone crashing with error 6.154 can mainly be caused by the following:

  • Conflicting Applications, Services, and Devices: If there are applications, services, and devices on the system that conflict with Warzone, then the game may crash with error 6.154.
  • Corrupt Game’s Files and Installation: If the essential game files of Warzone are corrupt or the game’s installation is corrupt, then the game may start crashing.
  • XMP Profile of BIOS: If the XMP profile of BIOS is enabled, then its overclocking of RAM may cause crashing of Warzone.
  • Faulty RAM or GPU: If the system’s RAM or GPU is faulty, then it may result in Warzone’s crashing error at hand.

Update the PC’s Windows to the Latest Build

Warzone might crash with error 6.154 if the PC’s Windows is outdated as the system’s OS may have become incompatible with the game and other system modules. Here, updating the PC’s Windows to the latest build may solve the Warzone problem.

  1. Click Windows, search, and open Check for Updates.
  2. Now, in the resulting window, click on the Check for Updates button, and if some Windows updates/optional updates are available, download and install the updates.

  3. Once installed, restart your PC, and upon restart, launch Warzone to check if the error 6.154 is cleared.

If the issue persists and the game is still running even after showing the fatal error, then check if you can drag (or use Alt + Tab to switch to the game window) the error message to a side of the screen and continue with the play.

Launch Warzone as Administrator and Modify its Install

Warzone’s crashing issue could be a result of the game’s inability to access a protected system file/memory section due to the non-presence of the administrator privileges. In such a case, launching the game as an administrator may clear Warzone’s crashing issue.

  1. Open the Battle.net launcher and select Warzone.
  2. Now expand its Options and select Show in Explorer.

  4. Now check if the Warzone crashing error is cleared.
  5. If not, again right-click the Warzone EXE file in the Explorer and select Properties.
  6. Now head to the Compatibility tab and uncheck Run This Program as Administrator (if checked).
  7. Then, launch Warzone from Battle.net launcher as normal and check if the crashing issue is cleared.
  8. If that did not work, open the Battle.net launcher and select Warzone.
  9. Now, open its Options and select Modify Install.

  11. Now apply the changes and launch Warzone to check if the crashing issue is resolved.

If the issue persists, make sure the system/GPU is well ventilated (do not forget to clear the system’s/GPU fan of any dust) and check if that resolves the issue.

Disable the Game Mode of the PC

Warzone might crash if the Windows games optimization techniques (i.e., Game Mode) is hindering the game’s operation, and disabling the same may solve the crashing problem at hand.

  1. Click Windows, search for Game Mode, and then open Game Mode Settings.

If the issue persists, check if playing the game in a different region solves the problem.

Optimize the Warzone Game in the Nvidia GeForce Experience 

The Warzone game might crash with error 6.154 if the game is not using the optimal graphics of the system due to which the system may fail to properly render the game’s graphics. In this context, optimizing the Warzone game in the Nvidia GeForce Experience (or any other OEM graphic utility) may solve the problem.

  1. Open the GeForce Experience utility and select the Call of Duty game.
  2. Now click on Optimize (if the Game is not Optimized) and then launch Warzone to check if it is operating fine.

If that did not work, check if lowering the game resolution solves the problem. If not, check if playing the game in borderless, full screen, or windowed mode solves the problem.

Disable Conflicting System Services

There can be different system services that may conflict with the Warzone game modules and cause the game’s crashing. In such a case, disabling the conflicting services in the system’s Services manager may solve the problem.

  1. Click Window, search for Services, right-click on it, and in the mini-menu, select Run as Administrator.

  2. Now, double-click an Nvidia service (like NVIDIA Display Container LS) and change its Startup Type to Disabled.

  3. Then, click on Stop and repeat the same for all other Nvidia services (like NVIDIA LocalSystem Container).

  4. Now launch Warzone and check if it is running fine without crashing.

Uninstall the Sonic Device from the System

The sonic device is a reported culprit to cause the Warzone crashing error 6.154 and if your system has it, then uninstalling it may solve the problem.

  1. Right-click Windows and select Device Manager.
  2. Now expand the Audio Input and Out tab or Sound tab. 
  3. Then right-click on the Sonic device and select Uninstall.
  4. Now, checkmark Delete the Driver Software of This Device (if shown) for the Sonic device and click on Uninstall.
  5. Then wait till the driver is uninstalled and repeat the same to uninstall all the Sonic-related devices in the Device Manager like Sonic Studio Virtual (make sure to check all the tabs of Device Manager).
  6. Once done, right-click on Windows and select Apps & Features.
  7. Then expand Sonic Studio (or any other Sonic application) and click on Uninstall.

  8. Afterward, confirm to uninstall the Sonic application and follow the prompts on the screen to complete the uninstallation process.
  9. Once done, right-click on the volume icon in the system’s tray and select Sounds.

  10. Now head to the Playback tab, right-click on a Sonic device (if shown) and select Disable.

  12. Now restart your system and upon restart, launch Warzone and check it its error 6.154 is cleared.
  13. If that did not work and the Sonic device reemerges in the Device Manager, then check if uninstalling the Realtek device in the Device Manager, restarting your system, and only using the generic audio driver solves the problem.

Clean Boot Windows and Uninstall Conflicting Applications

Warzone error 6.154 could be a result of interference from a 3rd party application. Here, clean booting Windows and uninstalling the conflicting applications may solve the problem.

  1. Perform a clean boot of the Windows PC and check if the Warzone game is opening fine.
  2. If so, then you may enable back the startup applications one by one till the problematic one is found. Once found, you may uninstall the application or keep it disabled at the system startup and when Warzone is launched.

The following applications are reported to cause error 6.154 for Warzone and if your system has any such application, you may uninstall it:

  • Afterburner
  • Discord
  • Aquasuite
  • Gamefirst
  • Razor Synapse

  1. Right-click Windows and select Apps & Features.
  2. Now expand Afterburner and click on Uninstall.

  4. Once done, restart your system, and upon restart, launch Warzone and check if it is launching without crashing.

Increase the Size of the Paging File of the System

The paging file or virtual memory is a part of the system storage drive that is used by the OS as RAM if the system gets short on the RAM. If the size of the paging file is less, then Warzone may crash with disc error 6.154 as it is deprived of the required amount of memory. In this scenario, increasing the size of the paging file of the system may solve the Warzone crashing issue.

  1. Click Windows, search and open Advanced System Settings.

  2. Now open Settings (in the Performance section) and head to the Advanced tab.

  3. Then, click on Change in the Virtual Memory section and uncheck Automatically Manage Paging File Size for All Drives.

  4. Now, select the system drive in the drives section and select Custom Size.
  5. Then, in the Initial Size box, enter the Recommended value, and in the Maximum Size box, enter the Currently Allocated value.
  6. Now click on Set and then click on Apply/OK.

  7. Then, restart your system and upon restart, launch Warzone and check if its crashing problem is solved.
  8. If not, check if setting the Initial Size to 1.5 X RAM and Maximum Size to 3 X RAM clears out the Warzone error.

Delete Warzone Player Folder in the Documents Directory

Warzone’s Player folder in the Documents directory holds different settings/configurations of Warzone and if this folder is corrupt, then the game might crash with disc read error 6.154. In this case, deleting the Players folder in the Documents directory (the game will create a new Player folder with default settings when launched) may solve the problem.

  1. Right-click Windows and select Run.

  3. Now open the Call of Duty folder and delete the Players folder.

Scan and Repair the Game Files of Warzone

The corrupt game files of Warzone may cause the error 6.154. Here, scanning and repairing the game files of Warzone may solve the problem.

  1. Open the Battle.net launcher and select Warzone.
  2. Now open its Options and select Scan and Repair.

  4. Once done, launch the Warzone game and check if its crashing issue is resolved.

Reinstall the System’s Graphics Driver and Related Application

You may encounter the error 6.154 in Warzone if the system’s graphics driver is corrupt and reinstalling the same may resolve the issue.

  1. Right-click Windows and select Device Manager.
  2. Now, expand Display Adapters and right-click on the display device (like Nvidia).
  3. Then, select Uninstall and in the resulting menu, checkmark Delete the Driver Software of This Device.

  4. Now click on the Uninstall button and wait till the driver is uninstalled.
  5. Once uninstalled, right-click on Windows and select Apps & Features.
  6. Now expand the graphics utility (like Nvidia GeForce Experience) and click on Uninstall.
  7. Then confirm to uninstall the graphics utility and follow the prompts on the screen to uninstall it.
  8. Once done, restart your system and upon restart, let the Windows install a generic display driver (if it tries).
  9. Now launch Warzone and check if the crashing error 6.154 is cleared.
  10. If the issue persists, check if reinstalling the latest graphics driver solves the problem.
  11. If that did not work, check if uninstalling the graphics driver with a 3rd party uninstaller like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and then reinstalling the driver solves the problem.

Edit the BIOS Settings of the PC

There can be certain BIOS settings (like XMP) that can cause the Warzone 6.154 error as these settings may impact the system’s ability to properly handle the game’s modules. In this scenario, editing the related-BIOS settings may clear the Warzone error.

Warning:

Advance at your own risk as editing the system’s BIOS is a proficient job and if anything goes wrong, you may brick your system and cause everlasting damage to your system/data.

Disable XMP in the System’s BIOS

  1. Boot your system into the BIOS and head to the M.I.T tab.
  2. Now expand Advanced CPU Settings and select Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P).
  3. Then select Disabled and save the changes made.

  5. Then launch Warzone and check if the game’s crashing problem is solved.

Update the System’s BIOS to the Latest Build

  1. Update the system’s BIOS as per the manufacturer:

Reset the System’s BIOS to the Factory Defaults

  1. Boot the PC into the BIOS and click on Restore Settings (near the right bottom of the screen).

  3. Now launch Warzone and check if it is clear of the crashing 6.154 error.

Reinstall the Warzone Game

Warzone may show the crashing error 6.154 if the game’s installation is corrupt and reinstalling the game (a 100+ GB download) may solve the problem.

  1. Firstly, make sure a backup of the essential data/info of the game is created.
  2. Now open the Battle.net launcher and select Warzone.
  3. Then, open its Options and select Uninstall.

  4. Now confirm to uninstall the game and wait till Warzone is uninstalled.
  5. Then restart your PC and upon restart, right-click Windows and select Apps & Features.
  6. Now expand Warzone (if shown) and click on Uninstall.
  7. Then confirm to uninstall Warzone and follow the prompts to complete the uninstall process.
  8. Once done, restart your PC, and upon restart, delete Warzone’s leftovers from the following directories:

  9. Once done, restart your PC and upon restart, reinstall Warzone.
  10. Once installed, launch Warzone, and hopefully, the Warzone’s crashing error 6.154 is cleared.

Check the System’s RAM or GPU

If the issue persists, even after the game’s reinstallation, the system’s GPU or RAM can cause the Warzone crashing error. 

The system’s RAMs can be checked for errors by removing the sticks one by one till the problematic one is found. If you have some spare RAMs available (e.g., from an older PC), then check if using those RAM sticks solves the problem. Moreover, a faulty RAM can also be traced by running Memtest or Windows Memory Diagnostics.

Keep in mind the issue might also occur if the system’s RAMs are in the wrong configuration and installing the RAMs in the proper slots as per the OEM’s instructions like installing RAMs in slots 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 solve the problem. Warzone might also crash if the RAM’s voltages are not in the recommended specification and making sure the same may solve the problem.

If RAMs are working fine, check if using another graphics card or using the onboard graphics card after disconnecting the dedicated graphics card from the system solves the problem.  

If the issue persists, you may reset Windows to the factory defaults or perform a clean installation of Windows.
