Just a few days ago, Ubisoft announced that it would be attending Gamescom 2022 this September. This meant that the company would likely hold a massive showcase announcing new games and providing updates on old ones. However, with so much under Ubisoft’s belt, everyone was wondering how the studio would tackle the amount of exciting news to be shared.
Of course, revealing everything at Gamescom wouldn’t be ideal since it would make the show too crammed. Plus, it’s better to give some announcements enough time to stay in the news before moving on to the next, something that would be impossible with a host of things being announced at once.
Apparently, Ubisoft is not stupid and realized this before us as the company has just announced two new showcases. A new Ubisoft Forward for July 7th, 2:00 PM ET., with a focus on Skull & Bones, and another massive “multi-game” showcase for September, which coincides with Ubisoft’s Gamescom presence.

What to expect
Famous industry insider, Tom Henderson, reported on June 24th that Ubisoft has rebooted Skull & Bones internally and plans to announce the game at the start of July, which is now confirmed. July 7th’s Ubisoft Forward will show off Skull & Bones gameplay and act as a sort of ‘re-reveal’ for the game to get everyone onboard once again.
The reason to pull a re-reveal is because Skull & Bones was originally announced all the way back in 2017 and has been stuck in development hell since. The game has seen a dozen delays with not a single update coming from official channels. However, the property is simply too big of an investment to abandon and, therefore, it’s coming back.
Moreover, Ubisoft will be holding a second showcase on September 10th, 2022 at 3:00 PM Eastern Time. This is the multi-game showcase that is supposed to include a ton of exciting announcements, reveals, and more. Previously, Ubisoft has said that they would reveal the future of Assassin’s Creed in September so expect updates on the franchise.
Assassin’s Creed will get a glorified DLC-game in the form of Assassin’s Creed Rift, most likely next year. But after that, we won’t get another mainline Assassin’s Creed game for a while as Ubisoft wants to tie all of the previous games together with an online multi-player focused experience called Assassin’s Creed Infinity. While we won’t see gameplay this soon, it’s highly likely that Ubisoft will announce Infinity at September’s showcase.
Ubisoft has always held a major games showcase in June for the past couple of years, right around the time E3 is going on. But, as we all know, there is no E3 this year and companies simply don’t care as much for the expo anymore, instead online presentations are becoming the norm now. Ubisoft is the latest company to ditch E3’s spirit and go for Gamescom as their show-floor of choice instead.
You can check out my previous article going over every possible announcement that Ubisoft can make this year, whether at their multi-game showcase, or another Ubisoft Forward. There are lots of games still under wraps and many awaiting a revival, which means Ubisoft is one busy studio for years to come. Let’s just hope they can deliver on all fronts, not just hype.
