Tales from the Borderlands was a great entry into the Borderlands franchise. The episodic game was released in 2014 and 2015, offering players a total of five episodes. The title was appreciated by fans and critics alike, and it went on to receive multiple awards and accolades. The game has solidified itself as one of the best cel-shaded loot and shoot FPS games of all time. And it’s coming to Gamescom 2022.
Tales from the Borderlands, formerly developed by Telltale games since it exists no more, is an excellent title even to this day. The game offers loads of fun with its amazing loot and shoot mechanics and guns.
New Tales from the Borderlands Announced for Gamescom 2022
It’s a captivating story featuring memorable characters that we grew to love and enjoy. Though Telltale has hit the hay forever, following its demise back in 2018, 2K Games managed to snatch the license for the franchise. 2K Games has a lot in store for the franchise as it announced that there was a lot in store for the game last year.
And then 2K games went quiet until now. As the spin-off series is expected to make an appearance during Gamescom 2022, that’s taking place in Cologne, Germany.
Geoff Keighley has been teasing a lot for Gamescom 2022 prior to Gamescom. It seems he’s pretty excited with all the announcements he’s making. Through Geoff’s reveals, we’ve managed to acquire information for upcoming tiles for Gamescom 2022, the likes of the highly anticipated remake of the award-winning original The Last of Us, which is a complete overhaul of the game.
Keeping the leaks flowing, he’s revealed the eerie and terrifying survival horror game, The Outlast Trials by Red Barrels Studios for the German event. But that’s not all. Eager gamers were given some clues about the ambitious independent-story game, Hogwarts Legacy. And now, Tales from the Borderlands by 2K Games is expected to walk the stage on Opening Night Live 2022.
It was a Monday afternoon when Geoff teased the new Tales from the Borderlands game. He uploaded a strange image to his Twitter featuring some silhouettes of three characters and indicated that something special is coming to Gamescom 2022 tomorrow.

To make things a bit obvious for the gaming community, he tagged the official Borderlands account. So, it’s official. The franchise is making an entrance at Gamescom 2022.
It’s evident that we’re getting a new Tales from the Borderlands sometime in the future. The title was leaked numerous times in recent weeks, detailing elements of the story along with the ESRB rating being brought to light.
To further solidify the evidence, Gearbox, the current developer of the franchise, indicated that something big was coming to the gaming community. The box art for Tales from the Borderlands was also leaked back with some box art, and the game was reported to launch on October 21.
The acquisition of the Borderlands franchise by 2K, paired with its revival after seven years, gives us the feeling that the game might take a significant shift from the original games.
The reveal of the new Tales from the Borderlands came with the confirmation that the game would not be developed by Telltale Games. Gearbox is now the lead developer for the title, and the company is probably doing its best to give us a worthy sequel to the original spin-off.
Prior leaks have also indicated that Tales from the Borderlands will be shifting its story to a roster of new characters instead of focusing on Fiona and Rhys.
The original Tales from Borderlands spanned over five episodes and ended the episodic video game with “The Vault of the Traveler” back in October 2015. It’s been nearly seven years since we got any word or releases for the spin-off franchise. Thus, the return of Tales from the Borderlands will be the first entry in the franchise in nearly a decade.
The game was critically acclaimed by fans and critics alike, receiving numerous awards and accolades. The game gave us a light-hearted atmosphere that didn’t take a serious approach to the story. Tales from the Borderlands also featured some new characters too.
Though there were some gory deaths in the original spin-off game, Telltale definitely nailed the comedy action adventure FPS with its captivating storytelling. Fiona and Rhys brought new life to the spin-off. The characters were funny and light-hearted but also conflicted as they did bear some questionable morals.
Being a Telltale game, the title did feature some decision-making and on-screen prompts that changed the outcome of the story. You got to push the morals of other characters and how their perception of you changed based on your decisions.
The gameplay aspect was pretty straightforward. You just aimed and shot characters. It wasn’t challenging, and the game didn’t feature any obscure spray or recoil mechanics or a learning curve, for that matter. It was simple, fun FPS shooting akin to Doom.
You just hopped on, played the game using basic FPS knowledge and had the time of your life. All in all, the game was a comedic action-adventure masterpiece. You’d enjoy it even if you didn’t like or know anything about Borderlands,
2K did some justice for the franchise last year. The company released a port of the beloved title for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, which was a well-needed addition to the roster of Nintendo Switch titles.
Fans are eagerly waiting to see what Gearbox has in store for them in regards to the new Tales from the Borderlands. Will it stay true to the original, or will the new development team steer away from the original formula? Maybe, they’ll add some new gameplay mechanics to the title.
Borderlands 3 was released back in September of 2019, whereas the DLC for the title was released in September of 2020, bringing the game to an end.
The new Tales from the Borderlands isn’t the only spin-off game in the franchise that is being released this year. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland was released sometime back in March of 2022, and it was critically acclaimed by fans and critics alike.
The new Tales from the Borderlands will be coming to all platforms. Fans can expect to play on any console they choose, whether it be the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, when it comes out on October 21, 2022.
