Just in July this year, Apple introduced the next gen M2 chip with the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The more powerful 16-inch and 14-inch MacBook Pro models still retain the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, and for obvious reasons as the M2 chip is still far behind them in performance metrics. The updated MacBook Pro family was expected to launch next month with the new M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, but it seems now that will be delayed by another month.
According to noted Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will likely launch in November, this year. The new iPad Pro models are also expected soon with the new M2 processor. Many people were expecting Apple to host an event next month for all these new releases, but according to Mark, that is very unlikely at this point.
Since most of these devices only feature a chip upgrade, Apple could skip the whole event thing and announce it via a simple press release. And it’s not even unprecedented as major products, such as the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max were announced via a press release.
I’m told that the new iPad software update and the first version of macOS Ventura add support for the latest iPad Pro models and the next versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The high-end laptops will get the first M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, more powerful versions of the standard M2. Changes to the laptops will be otherwise minimal.

M2 Pro and M2 Max – What’s New?
Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chips were significant upgrades over the original M1 processor, and it will likely be the same with the upcoming M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The newly released M2 chip is built on TSMC’s second generation 5nm architecture and features 8-cores.
New 14" and 16" MacBook Pro with new processors will enter mass production in 4Q22. Given TSMC's guidance that the 3nm will contribute revenue starting in 1H23, processors of 14" and 16" MacBook Pro models may still adopt the 5nm advanced node.

Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max chips were earlier rumored to be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm architecture, but now recent rumors suggest that the Cupertino giant will stick to the same 5nm node used for the original M2. The upcoming chips will however feature more cores and higher boost clocks. The M2 Max chip is rumored to feature a 12-core CPU, along with a 38-core GPU. On the other hand, the M2 Pro chip will probably feature a 10-core CPU, coupled with a 32-core GPU.
