About Animal Well
Animal Well was announced in February 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PC by Shared Memory. Animal Well is one of the seven indie games coming to PlayStation 5 this year. It is a pixelated mysterious puzzle game that unfolds mysteries and new locations throughout the gameplay. The PlayStation store page for Animal Well describes it as:
Discover a mysterious, non-linear, interconnected world as you solve puzzles in over 250 rooms in whatever order you choose. Rely on your wits to avoid danger in this combat-free Metroidvania.
You’ll encounter creatures both beautiful and unsettling, and have to decide what is safe and dangerous.
Manipulate a pixel-art world in surprising and meaningful ways and try to survive what lurks in the dark. In Animal Well, there is more to the world than what you can see.
It is undoubtedly an interesting pick by Dunkey to support an unconventional game like Animal Well. Still, it makes sense if we consider the primary motivation behind BIGMODE Games, as Dunkey explained in his announcement video:
I’ve been on YouTube for 11 years now, and one of the core themes of my channel has always been to slam dunk soulless cash grabs into the garbage can and lift up and praise the truly inspired works of art in this medium.
A lot of games out there understand how to emulate the look of your favorite games but don’t deliver where it actually counts. Many of the true games out there are being drowned out in a sea of mediocrity. You need someone who can help you be seen.
I want Bigmode to act as my seal of approval, which is something that I do not apply lightly. I am not looking for creative control over your games, but I do want to be involved. I’m sick of sitting on the sidelines waiting for great games to appear. Now I want to get in there and help make it happen.”
The release date of Animal Well is yet to be revealed, but it surely will have a lot of eyes on it, especially with solid backing from an influential gaming personality like Dunkey. Animal Well is live on the PlayStation store and Steam if you want to wishlist it.
