GTA Trilogy Might Get A ‘Saving Grace’ Patch Soon

In order to address its blatant technical faults, it looks that GTA: The Trilogy Definitive Edition will get a patch on Steam.

Recent activity on the Steam Database suggests that Rockstar Games may be developing a patch for GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition. Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas are the three games included in this package. All three games have received previous updates, however, it’s unknown whether those updates contained any possible remedies for the game’s technical bugs.

The game is now available on Steam, and later this month it will also be released on the Epic Games Store. The game features support for Steam Deck, so it will run flawlessly on a portable, however, it seems there are still issues, and they are not related to Steam Deck or PC. All the problems are coming from the game itself, and judging from the appearance, they haven’t been resolved yet.

Since its release on Steam, all three games in the trilogy have received several unfavorable reviews. Issues include a large number of problems, poor performance and graphics, and an absence of updates, which are similar to complaints made when the trilogy was first made available. Rockstar issued an apology for the release’s poor condition back in 2021, but it seems that many of the problems with the trilogy have not been resolved.

The entire PC community is happy to have our favorite childhood games released on Steam; however, the road getting here should not have taken this long and the Steam community should not be treated as an after-thought.”

-Steam Review

The significant patch that was meant to have addressed many of the obvious technical problems with GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition scarcely did so. In GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, several in-game items that had been misplaced continue to be so, and the AI-upscaled roadways continue to seem broken.

The patch also brought up new bugs that weren’t there before, including a problem in San Andreas where various elements of your automobile change color each time you open and shut the garage door. GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition post-patch still has bugs from the game’s 2001 original release.

Even though the game has officially been released on Steam, Rockstar Games will need to make substantial game improvements as soon as feasible. It will need a long list of fresh repairs and significant upgrades to redeem the  extremely negative press and user reviews.
