AMD ‘Phoenix Point’ Ryzen 7 7840HS is Faster Than The Ryzen 5 7600X in Multi-Core Testing

In yet again, another leak regarding AMD’s Phoenix Point family, the Ryzen 7 7840HS has been benchmarked in Cinebench R23. Do note that this test is probably not as extensive as the Ryzen 9 7940HS that was tested a few days prior. However, it gives us some insight into the performance levels of the Ryzen 7 7840HS.

User 金猪升级包 over at bilibili shared a screenshot showcasing the Ryzen 7 7840HS in Cinebench R23. This was the same user that leaked the performance levels of the Ryzen 9 7940HS alongside the Radeon 780M. In any case, the Ryzen 7 7840HS manages to score 16854 points in the multi-core test. The single-core score is said to be around 1800 points by the user but blurred out due to some inconsistencies.

This is a very respectable score for the Ryzen 7 7840HS. For some context, see the chart below;

The Ryzen 7 7840HS is able to keep up with the desktop Ryzen 5 7600X, which is an amazing feat to achieve. In addition, it is much faster than the previous Ryzen 6000 series of CPUs. This advantage will only increase once we factor in AMD’s RDNA3-based Radeon 780M iGPU.

The Ryzen 7 7840HS ships with 8 cores / 16 threads, similar to the Ryzen 9 7940HS. However, it features slightly lower clocks standing at 3.8GHz and 5.1GHz respectively. Both the 7940HS and the 7840HS have 40MB of cache. In fact, they share the same Radeon 780M iGPU, boasting 12 CUs. It should be noted that when coupled with the 7840HS, the Radeon 780M will ruin 100MHz slower at 2.9GHz when compared to the 7940HS.

Even then, the performance difference should be minimal. Phoenix Point APU-equipped laptops will hit shelves sometime around March, or next month. We can hope that until then AMD fixes its RDNA3 driver and hardware-related bugs.
