Apple fans got an exciting treat today, with Apple insider ‘Ice Universe‘ leaking 2D models of the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max on Twitter. This is not the first time Ice Universe has been ahead of the curve, having previously been one of the first to report on the notch of the iPhone X, the new design of the iPhone 14, and Samsung‘s 200MP camera sensor.
The 2D models show a phone design that is very similar to previous generations. The ‘notch island‘, referred to by Apple as ‘dynamic island‘, remains intact, suggesting Apple has no plans to do away with it any time soon.
There is also seemingly no sim tray, and three camera lenses, the same as its predecessor – although there could likely be some kind of upgrade. The camera bump is reportedly flatter than what the recently leaked renders of the iPhone 15 Pro show.
The size of the phone has also been mentioned by Ice Universe, who stated “iPhone 15 Pro Max size: 159.86 mm × 76.73 mm × 8.25 mm,” adding “Including the camera, the total thickness is 11.84 mm.”
Along with this, they have suggested that all physical buttons may be gone, with the 2D model only showing placeholder holes in their place. This is in line with earlier reports that suggested the physical buttons would be replaced by ‘solid state buttons’ with haptic feedback, similar to what we saw with the home buttons of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.
The name of the phone has not been officially confirmed, though ‘Pro Max‘ or ‘Ultra‘ have both been mooted as possible titles.
What else do we know?
According to other leaks, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to house Apple’s new A17 chip, which will be exclusive to the Pro lineup. This means the iPhone 15 models will be powered by the same A16 chip that we’ve seen in previous generations of the Pro and Pro Max series. The 3-nanometer A17 chip promises faster performance and improved power efficiency.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max will also feature a larger RAM capacity than the other models, allowing for faster multitasking and improved storage capacities. It is also expected to include an upgraded USB-C port with USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 transfer speeds, as well as the same 5G Qualcomm modem chip technology seen in all iPhone 15 models.
The phone, along with all of its other variants, is expected to be announced in September 2023, in line with previous announcements.
