Fix: Application made too many requests (Error 0x80860010)

0x80860010 is an Error Code that occurs when accessing the Applications downloaded from the Microsoft Store. This error prevents you from opening applications such as OneDrive and Microsoft Office. It occurs due to corruption in the Microsoft Store cache. This is why you can’t access the downloaded apps and receive the “This application made too many requests, Press Retry to continue. 0x80860010 ” message.

In this guide, we will be showing you the methods to fix the 0x80860010 Error Code.

1. Change the Time Zone

One of the reasons you face this error is because of a wrong time zone on your system. When your computer is set to a different time zone compared to the actual time of your area, then it will interfere with the Microsoft Application. Therefore, you must check your time zone and change it to the one shown on the Internet. You can Sync your computer’s time with the internet by following the steps listed below:

Open the Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys together.
Navigate to Time and Language > Date and Time.
Set the time zone to match the internet time by switching the “Set time automatically” and “Set time zone automatically” buttons to On.

2. Run the Windows Store Troubleshooter

You can also use Windows Store Troubleshooter to fix this error. This is a built-in feature in Windows that allows you to scan and detect the issue causing the error on the system and provides solutions to fix them as well. Therefore, you must perform the Windows Store Troubleshooter with the instructions given under:

Open the Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys together.
Navigate to System > Troubleshooter.
Scroll down and click on the “Windows Store App” option at the end.

3. Verify your Microsoft Account (if applicable)

An unverified Microsoft Account prevents you from accessing Microsoft programs. Therefore, you must manually verify your account with the instructions listed below to access the programs and applications:

Open the Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys together.
Navigate to Accounts > Your Info.
Click on the “Verify” option under “Manage my Microsoft account”

4. Delete Temporary Files on the Datastore Folder

Having corrupted files in the Datastore Folder will also be a reason for the occurrence of this error. Therefore, to prevent such corruption, you must manually delete all the temporary files stored in the Datastore Folder. You can do that with the steps below:

Open the Windows File Explorer by pressing the Win + E keys together.
Paste the following path into the search bar to open the Software Distribution Data Store folder:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
```
Select all the temporary log files by pressing the Ctrl + A keys together.
Delete the files by right-clicking on them and selecting the “Delete” option.

5. Reset the Microsoft Store Cache

Since the error occurs due to corruption in the Store Cache, you must reset the Microsoft Store Cache to delete the temporary data that corrupted the programs and caused the error. You can rest the Microsoft Store Cache as follows:

Open the Windows Run Command by pressing the Win + R keys together.
Reset the Microsoft Store Cache by typing “WSReset.exe” in the search box and clicking OK.

Navigating to Apps > Apps and Features.
Type “Store” in the search bar under “manage optional features.”

6. Turn off Proxy Server

Proxy servers are mainly used for providing protection to your online privacy. However, they can also be a factor in interfering with how the Microsoft Store Programs and applications run by preventing them from launching properly. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, you must turn off the Proxy Server from your Windows. You can follow the instructions below to turn off the proxy servers:

Open the Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys together.
Navigate to Network and Internet > Proxy.

7. Create a New User Account

This error will also occur because of a corrupted user account. Corruption in the user account prevents certain programs from running from the Microsoft Store as a result you get an error. Therefore, you must manually create a new user account. However, do note that when creating a new user account, you must have a backup copy of all your data in a USB driver in case your data is deleted.

8. Update your Windows

When using Microsoft applications, your Windows must be-to-date. Having an outdated Windows will result in the programs not working properly which causes the error. Therefore, you must check for an available Windows update before running the Microsoft programs. Below are the instructions to help you update your Windows:

Open the Windows Settings by pressing the Win + I keys together.
Navigate to Update and Security > Windows Update.
Click on the “Check for Updates” option.
Download the latest Windows update by clicking on the Download option.

Note: In case the Windows Update isn’t available, you can manually download an update with the steps below since sometimes Windows doesn’t notify you about an available update.

9. Download the Application from the Official Website

A simple method to avoid this error is by downloading the program and application at fault by visiting the Official website. For example, if you are facing an error with the Whatsapp application, simply visit the Official WhatsApp website and download the app for your Windows.

10. Re-install Microsoft Store App Using PowerShell

If you are still facing the error, then you must reinstall the Microsoft Store App using Windows PowerShell. You can do that by following the steps given below:

Disclaimer: Before running Windows PowerShell, you must disable Third-party software such as Avast Antivirus as they interfere with this process.

Open Avast Antivirus and navigate to Menu > Settings > Protection > Core Shield.

Run the Windows PowerShell as an administrator by right-clicking on the app and selecting the “Run as administrator” option.

Paste the following commands into the PowerShell window and press the Enter key:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Remove-AppxPackage
```

Once the above commands have been executed, paste the following commands and press the Enter key

Get-AppxPackage -allusers *WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

After all, commands have been executed, the Microsoft Store App will be reinstalled automatically.
Restart your computer to make the necessary changes.

11. Run the System on Safe Mode

If the error persists, you must run the system on Safe Mode which is a built-in feature in Windows that allows the system to start with default programs and a minimal set of drivers. You can run the system on Safe Mode as shown below:

Open System Configuration by typing “msconfig” in the search box and clicking OK.

Set the timer as per your choice and Click Apply and OK.

Note: If the error doesn’t occur on Safe Mode, then you must use the Windows Installation Media Tool to perform an In-Place Upgrade on your system. Using this tool, you will upgrade your Windows to a new version. Do note that your entire saved system data will get removed after performing this tool. Therefore, when using this tool, you must have a backup copy of your data.
