Telegram Rolls Out Fresh Mobile Design and Introduces “Gift Crafting” Feature

Telegram has released a new update for its mobile apps, bringing a refreshed interface to Android, visual refinements to iOS, and a handful of new features - including an unexpected collectible “gift crafting” system.

Here’s what’s changing.

Android Gets a Full Interface Overhaul

The biggest update arrives on Android. Telegram says it has rebuilt the app’s interface code from the ground up to improve navigation speed and responsiveness.

One of the most noticeable changes is a new bottom navigation bar, similar to what many iOS users are accustomed to. This bar makes it easier to switch between chats, settings, and profile sections without relying on layered menus.

Telegram also added updated interface effects. For users concerned about battery life or visual intensity, these can be adjusted under Settings > Power Saving.

Sometimes during the update phase, Telegram may lag and stop working. We have an article that shows you how to fix it.

iOS Gains More “Liquid Glass” Elements

While the Android update is more dramatic, iPhone users aren’t forgotten. The iOS app now includes additional Liquid Glass design elements, Apple’s updated visual language introduced with iOS 26.

Changes include:

  • A redesigned media viewer
  • Updated sticker and emoji pack preview panels
  • Refined context menus when selecting messages within profiles

The tweaks are not huge but continue Telegram’s push toward a more modern, system-aligned look.

Group Ownership Now Transfers Automatically

Telegram has also introduced a practical new administrative feature for group chats.

If a group owner leaves a chat, ownership will automatically transfer to one of the existing admins after a week. Alternatively, the departing owner can manually assign a new admin before exiting.

Admins can also transfer ownership at any time—even without leaving the group—making management more flexible for larger communities.

Bots Get Visual Upgrades

Bot developers now have the option to add colors and emojis to bot buttons. While not a major structural change, it makes bot interfaces easier to read and navigate at a glance.

iPad Shortcut for Faster Messaging

For Telegram users on iPad, there’s a small but welcome productivity addition:
Command + Enter now sends a message instantly.

Telegram’s New “Gift Crafting” System

Perhaps the most unusual addition in this update is the expansion of Telegram’s digital gift system.

Telegram previously allowed users to send virtual gifts, some of which could be upgraded into collectible, NFT-like items. With this update, users can now “craft” new gifts by combining up to four existing ones.

The crafting system introduces rarity tiers:

  • Uncommon
  • Rare
  • Epic
  • Legendary

While this feature relies heavily on collectible and marketplace mechanics (something not traditionally associated with messaging apps), it shows Telegram’s continued testing with in-app economies.

Overall, this update adds improvements with more experimental features. The interface changes and admin tools will affect most app users immediately, while the collectible crafting system may be of interest to a more niche audience.

If Telegram is your primary chat app, you may notice the new design and features rolling out over the coming days.

What's your main messaging app? Do you use Telegram at all?
