Wardogs, the new all-out warfare FPS from developer Bulkhead, has sold more than 1 million copies on the day it launched with early access and has reached 300,000 concurrent players on Steam.
The high level of interest has caused server queues, which have meant that some players have not been able to get straight into the game.
At present, the game is available only on PC, and Bulkhead has set a release date of 2028 for the PS5 and Xbox, although no exact date has been given. Bulkhead launched the game into early access today.
Wardogs Early Access Sales, Player Count, and Console Plans
Bulkhead states that Wardogs has sold over one million copies, and SteamDB indicates that more than 300,000 players are logging in at the same time. This large number of players has caused server queues, so that some players cannot go directly into matches.
"It's a mental feat to pass a million copies sold as we enter early access," remarked Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead. "Over the past few months we've have shown people precisely what Wardogs is and what it isn't, and at one time actually gave everybody ten reasons not to buy it. We didn't want people to fall for blind hype."
Brammer also stated that the game remains in early access with various issues to deal with, and urged players to continue playing and to give feedback.
Wardogs is trying to achieve a balance between simulation games such as Arma and more casual titles like Battlefield, with the aim of offering a tense, realistic, and large-scale experience that includes emergent moments. The fact that the game is currently available only on PC makes its initial sales figures all the more noteworthy.
Bulkhead has stated that Wardogs will be coming to the consoles, with a release date of 2028 for both the PS5 and Xbox, although an exact date was not provided.
The developer has mentioned that it anticipates the initial excitement to fade away over time since it intends to release new content slowly, which could result in a decrease in the number of players.
Wardogs is now available on PC via early access, while the versions for the PS5 and Xbox are aiming for a release in 2028 although no specific date has been confirmed.
Bulkhead has presented the game as an ongoing early access project with additional content still to be added. It is not yet clear whether the game will be able to keep its players as new content is released, though the developers expect the number of players to vary over time.
