Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs might finally give the red camp a run for its money. In the last few generations AMD has managed to match Intel and even surpass them in terms of performance. Although this can change with the release of Alder Lake-S, if priced competitively. Previous leaks have given us a good idea about the performance, but nothing on pricing.
Thankfully a recent leak (via VideoCardz) provides some information on the pricing front.
Another interesting thing here is the implementation of big.LITTLE with x86 hardware. Its basically the use of two types of processors for different types of tasks, the powerful cores are used for resource intensive tasks meanwhile the lower power cores are used for normal functioning. Lakefield uses a five-core design, with four lower power cores (Atom) and one high power core (Sunny Cove). This design is implemented because it improves efficiency as performance is easier to scale between the different core clusters.
Intel Core i9-12900K
The upcoming i9-12900K will feature 16 cores and 24 threads, with a max boost clock of 5.2 GHz. The KF variant without the integrated GPU will cost $564 US. Its predecessor, the i9-11900K was priced at $539 US at launch. This is very good news, decent performance uplift which isn’t accompanied by a big price hike.
Intel Core i7-12700K
The i7-12700K will feature 12-cores and 20 threads, with a max boost clock of 5.0 GHz. The i7 serves an important market segment and has the smallest price differential with its predecessor. The i7-12700K is going to be priced at $384 US, 10$ US more than the i7-11700K.
Intel Core i5-12600K
Finally coming to the i5-12600K, it is now a 10-core CPU with 16 threads, and a max boost clock of 4.9 GHz. This CPU will retail for $289 US and the KF variant for $264 US.
Alder Lake is set to debut Intel’s most drastic shift in design and architectural philosophy ever, featuring a hybrid big.LITTLE design consisting of performance and efficiency cores. So far, the flagship i9-12900K, 16-core 24-thread chip has been leaked to oblivion and we have a good idea of where it stands in the performance hierarchy. However, the i7-12700K and i5-12600K have also been the victim of leaks with benchmarks and core specifications already out in the wild.
