A few extra months of polish for what the developers hope will be " the best Saints Row game yet."
What you need to know
- Saints Row is being delayed past its original release date of February 25, 2022.
- This delay is meant to make it as polished as possible due to the impacts of the pandemic.
- Saints Row is now scheduled to launch on August 23, 2022.
The upcoming Saints Row reboot is delayed, Volition chief creative officer Jim Boone confirms. Instead of launching into an increasingly-packed February 2022 like originally scheduled, Saints Row is now slated to arrive on August 23, 2022.
Boone notes that despite the team shifting into a work from home setup, the studio still managed to "underestimate" the effect of the pandemic on game development, meaning more time is needed in order to polish Saints Row into what the developers hope will be "the best Saints Row game yet." The size and scope of the game is also a factor, with Boone reiterating that this will be the largest game in the franchise so far.
This Saints Row, revealed during Gamescom 2021, is a soft reboot of the franchise, meant to take players back to the somewhat more grounded roots of smuggling, theft and drug running.
February 2022 is still stacked with upcoming games, including the Guerrilla Games' Horizon Forbidden West and FromSoftware's Elden Ring, which are scheduled to launch on February 18 and February 25, respectively.
