As we all approach the festive joys of Christmas everyone, including Microsoft employees, are taking a break for the Holidays. As such, the final flight for the year of 2022 has just been pushed out to the Dev Channel. Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22523 is here and it brings forth a nice mix of improvements, new features and bug fixes along with it.
Firstly, it’s important to note that this build will be offered for ARM64-based Windows 11 devices and Microsoft has also released ISOs for this build which you download here. The Dev Channel is also now receiving builds from the active development branch (RS_PRERELEASE) which means these builds are the at the cutting-edge of Microsoft developers are working on, hence you should expect more bugs and instability if you chose to flight these builds, including Build 22523.
What’s new
Starting off with File Explorer, the “…” option in the command bar now lets you add or remove a media server. Just click on the three dots and the option to add media server or remove media server will be available there. Moreover, Snap Groups in ALT + TAB and Task View are now available to all Insiders in the Dev Channel.
For those of you unaware, when you run instances of the same app side-by-side or have apps multiple apps opened on one monitor, Windows 11 can memorize their location and respect that even when minimized. Therefore, when you hover an app on the Taskbar, it shows all the instances in a neat layout; that layout is known as a Snap Group. And now it’s available in ALT + TAB and Task View alongside the Taskbar.
Lastly, Microsoft is migrating two settings from Control Panel to the Settings app in this update as part of its overall effort to make general settings available on the Settings app. First, Link to Programs & Features in Control Panel will now be moved to Installed Apps under the Apps section in Settings. That means the link to change or uninstall programs on your PC is now in Settings. Second, Uninstall Updates will be getting its own new page under Update History in the Windows Update section in Settings. So, to uninstall cumulative updates and such, Settings is the new place to do so.
There are bunch of bug fixes part of this build, as usual with every build. Everything from File Explorer to Spotlight collection and even Widgets are addressed.
