AMD Announces Radeon RX 6500 XT: New Entry-Level RDNA 2 GPU For Just $199

After weeks of rumors and speculations, AMD has finally announced the Radeon RX 6500 XT. A brand new entry-level GPU from AMD powered by the RDNA 2 architecture. This is the first technically sub-$200 GPU announced in this generation and aims to fill in a space that had been seemingly abandoned by both the red and green teams.

The Radeon RX 6500 XT will retail for $199, or at least that’s the MSRP. We all know how MSRPs are these days and as bitter as it sounds, it’s very unlikely that you’ll actually be able to snag this GPU for its suggested price. Still, it’s important that AMD has not forgotten about this segment and wants to bring down the barrier for entry for RDNA 2.

Spec Rundown

RX 6500 XT is based on the Navi 24 GPU and is manufactured using TSMC‘s 6nm process node. That makes it the first RDNA 2 GPU to be on 6nm. It also features the highest sustained boost clocks ever for a GPU at up to 2.6Ghz. Moreover, it features 1024 Stream Processors and 16 Compute Units along with 4GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 18 Gbps, fastest out of any RDNA 2 GPU.

It’s also important to note that this GPU does feature 16 Ray Accelerators which means it’s fully capable of hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Though, it remains to be seen if that actually translates to decent real-world performance or not. AMD’s new RSR tech based on FSR can perhaps helps the GPU squeeze out a couple more frames there.

The card will will release on January 19th and will by only AMD’s board partners as there will be no Founder’s Edition. Additionally, the GPU will boast a two-slot design with both latest DisplayPort and HDMI connectivity. AMD compared the card against the GTX 1650 and its own RX 570 in benchmarks where it dominated both by offering substantial bumps in frame-count.
