Intel Offers First Glimpse at Upcoming Arc Alchemist Desktop Graphics Card in Latest Tease

Intel just held its first event for Arc Graphics where it unveiled five new mobile GPUs coming to laptops starting today. The event was full of exciting announcements covering the full feature set of Intel Arc mobile GPUs and the technologies powering them. While the show was certainly eventful , Intel knew what the people really cared for and, thus, gave us a full-on Apple-style “one more thing” tease before signing off.

At the tail end of the presentation, Intel showed off the upcoming Arc Alchemist desktop GPU for the first time since Arc’s announcement. The company officially unveiled what seems like the Founder’s Edition for Intel Arc GPUs in a short video clip that gave us our first official look at a “Limited Edition” Arc graphics card. We also got a release window for Arc Alchemist A-series desktop graphics cards and they are now slated to launch in summer of this year.

The launch date aligns with previous rumors suggesting that the card would launch between May and June at the earliest as Intel is targeting a Q2 launch for Arc desktop GPUs. Not only that, even the design is somewhat in-line with previously leaked pictures of Arc Alchemist reference cards that showed off a similar sleek build but in silver color and with much more pronounced wave pattern around the fans.

Intel Founder’s Edition?

The card features an all-black and grey shroud with silver accents complimenting the dark shades. It’s a two-fan design with strangely no power connectors at all, which raises interesting questions as to whether Intel has not yet finalized the power limits of the card. There is at least one LED-lit logo on the card, the logo on the top seems like it’s only embossed and does not light up but the one on the side is illuminated.

The video shows the card coming to life from nothing, which gives us a good look at the insides. Most notably the I/O, which houses three DisplayPorts 1.4a connectors and only one HDMI 2.0 port. We can also see eight memory modules on the PCB which suggests that this is likely the top-end Arc graphics card using the full ACM-G10 die (SOC 1) that comes with 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

As of right now, we know that the flagship SKU from Intel’s A-series will be called Arc A780, so we’re probably looking at a premium version of that card in this teaser. Arc A780 uses the full DG2-512 GPU with 32 Xe-Cores and 32 ray-tracing units, giving it performance comparable to somewhere between a RTX 3070 to 3070 Ti. The clock speeds, pricing, and other details regarding availability will be revealed at a later date.

Overall, the card is rocking a sleek finish with a mature design that looks similar to NVIDIA’s RTX 30-series Founder’s Edition cards. Whether this design is the default OEM design for Intel Arc GPUs, or just a one-off limited edition to celebrate the launch, remains yet to be seen. We don’t know why the card has the Limited Edition moniker but it does go along nicely with the clean look so we’re not complaining either.
