AMD Radeon RX 6750XT Performs Only 2% Faster Than The Standard RX 6700XT in New Benchmark Leak

AMD is on track to launch its mid-cycle RDNA 2 refresh soon. The Radeon RX 6X50XT series is said to replace the existing RX 6000 series, right before RDNA 3 hits the store shelves. This will be the first time in AMD GPU generations’ history where a refresh of this scale will take place. Three cards are expected to be part of this update, the RX 6900XT, RX 6700XT, and the RX 6600XT. All of those GPUs will now have a “5” in place of the “0” after their model prefix. For instance, RX 6950 XT.

So far, we’ve only heard about Radeon RX 6X50 series through leaks and rumors as AMD hasn’t made the lineup official. And no effort has been made to do so either; review samples still haven’t been sent out, which suggests the lineup is going to have a hasty launch or the release is simply some time away at this point. That being said, leaks have come to the rescue once again as one of the RX 6X50 GPUs, the Radeon RX 6750 XT has been tested in GFXBench.

For those who need a reminder, the RX 6X50 series is said to bring an incremental performance improvement over the standard RX 6000 series. Only noticeable bump-up here is the increase in memory speed, now up to 18Gbps across all three new graphics cards, and the clock speeds will also be slightly higher. Combined, these will provide a small difference in performance compared to the soon-to-be-old GPUs, but nothing substantial.

More specifically, the GPU in question—RX 6750XT—is a Navi 22-based graphics card with 12GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory. The core count and every other spec is same as the normal 6700XT, though we’re not sure if the faster memory and increased clock frequencies will result in a TDP uplift. Currently, the card is expected to carry the same 230W TDP as its standard variant. 

Benchmark breakdown

Coming to the benchmark itself, someone got their hands on the Radeon RX 6750XT and put it through GFXBench software. Unfortunately, GFXBench is not the most representative of benchmarks and is very scarcely used in the mainstream community for testing. On top of that, only one test out of the entire GFXBench stack was actually run on the 6750XT. So, the results here are less meaningful than we’d like, but they’re all we’ve got for now.

That one benchmark was Aztec Ruins High Tier and the Radeon RX 6750XT achieved 366.5 FPS in the off-screen test, whereas the on-screen performance came out to around 148 FPS. Compared to the standard RX 6700XT, the updated model netted 2% more frames in the off-screen test, running on the same DirectX graphics API. As you can tell, the aforementioned incremental performance upgrade can be seen in full effect here.

Of course, this is still a leaked benchmark so it should be taken with the obligatory grain of salt. In fact, the original tweet by Komachi, who was the first one to spot the GFXBench entry, has actually been deleted since then. All in all, this suggest that the Radeon RX 6X50XT series is still in the early testing stages. While the hardware may be somewhat ready, perhaps AMD is fine-tuning the drivers to get the most out of this refresh.

Radeon RX 6X50XT series is coming

As per the current rumors, AMD’s RDNA 2 refresh, aka the RX 6X50XT series, is set to launch on May 10th, and that includes the RX 6750XT that we just talked about. There is no word on specs, pricing, availability, or other details, at least from official channels, as of yet. All info is expected to be revealed at the launch. Once the series eventually does come out, it will replace pre-existing RDNA 2 GPUs of the same model as soon as AIBs and GPU manufacturers switch production to the newer models.

If that 2% performance improvement is indicative of the entire series then we can say for sure that this won’t be a worthwhile upgrade for people who already own RDNA 2 GPUs. Though, this could be an enticing deal for customers looks for a new GPU, especially those who could otherwise be allured towards Intel’s upcoming Arc A-Series desktop GPUs. The new wave of marketing could held AMD captivate both old but mostly new users alike, which could result in a successful launch for Team Red.
