iOS has gone through many improvements and enhancements but its Contacts app is still not up to the mark by iOS own’s standards. One of the most demanding features of the Contacts app is the ability to delete multiple contacts on iPhone at once. Although the app misses this feature but no need to worry, there are methods to do so, as discussed later.
Delete Individual Contacts on iPhone
- Open the Contacts app of your iPhone and scroll to the contact to be deleted.
- Now tap on it and select Edit.
- Then scroll down and tap on Delete Contact.
- Now confirm to delete the contact and the contact will be removed from the iPhone.
Delete Multiple Contacts on iPhone
A user may use the above method to delete a few of his contacts but the process may become tedious if a user has many contacts (like 1000+). In such a case, a user may follow the process discussed below:
Delete Multiple Contacts by Using a Mac
Although the Contacts app on iPhone (or iPad) lacks the feature of deletion of multiple contacts at once, the same can be done on the Contacts app of a Mac (given that the iPhone and Mac use the same iCloud account).
- Launch the System Preferences on Mac and open iCloud.
- Now sign in (if not signed in) and make sure Contacts are synced.
- Then, launch Applications on Mac and open the Contacts app.
- Now View All Contacts, hold the Command button of Mac and click on the contacts to be deleted (one by one). If a user wants to delete all contacts, he may select All Contacts.
- Once the desired contacts are selected, right-click and select Delete Cards.
- Then confirm to delete the cards and once the contacts are synced back to iPhone, the contacts will be removed from iPhone.
Delete Multiple Contacts by Using a PC
Not everyone owns a Mac, so, to delete multiple accounts, a PC user may use the iCloud website (although, Mac users can follow the steps).
- Launch a web browser and steer to the iCloud website.
- Now log in using your iCloud credentials (make sure to use the same iCloud account that is being used on your iPhone) and open Contacts.
- Now hold the Ctrl key and select the contacts to be deleted (one by one). A user may select All Contacts if he wants to delete all contacts.
- Once the required contacts are selected, hit the Delete key and then confirm to delete the contacts.
- After the sync operation completes on iPhone, multiple contacts will be removed from the phone.
Delete 3rd Party Contact on iPhone
Not everyone syncs their contacts iPhone contacts through iCloud, other users prefer other services (like Gmail). In such a case, the user may delete the contacts on the website of their service or if he wants to delete all the contacts, he may disable its Contacts sync.
- Launch a web browser and head to the Contacts service website (like Google Contacts).
- Now select the contacts to be deleted, click on three vertical ellipses, and select Delete.
- Then confirm to delete the contacts and once the iPhone sync process completes, the multiple 3rd party contacts will be removed from iPhone.
Delete All 3rd Party Contacts from iPhone
If a user wants to delete all the contacts belonging to a 3rd party service, then he may follow the steps below:
- Launch the iPhone Settings and open Contacts.
- Now select Accounts and open the required account (like Gmail).
- Then disable the Contacts sync by toggling its switch to the off position and when asked to, tap on Delete from My iPhone.
- Afterward, all contacts of that 3rd party service will be removed from the iPhone.
Use a 3rd Party App
Not everyone loves to use a system to manage their iPhone contacts. In that case, a user may use a 3rd party app to delete multiple contacts on iPhone. The followings are some of the popular ones in this niche:
- Groups
- Cleaner for iPhone
- CopyTrans Contacts
- Delete Contacts+ app
- Cleanup Duplicate Contacts
- Cinder App
- Simpler Contacts Management
For illustration, we will discuss the process of deleting multiple contacts through the Groups app.
- Install the Contacts Groups app and launch it. Make sure to allow the Groups app to access the iPhone’s Contacts.
- Now open All Contacts and mark the contacts to be deleted. Keep in mind that the free version only allows the deletion of 10 contacts at once.
- Then open Choose Action and tap on Delete Contacts.
- Now confirm to delete the contacts by tapping Remove from My iPhone and the contacts will be deleted.
Delete All iCloud Contacts on iPhone
There may be times when a user may want to delete all contacts on his iPhone like before factory resetting the iPhone.
- Launch the iPhone Settings and tap on your user profile.
- Now open iCloud and disable the Contacts sync by toggling its switch to the off position.
- Then select Delete from My iPhone and that will remove the iCloud contacts from iPhone.
We are hopeful, that soon the Contacts app on iPhone will be equipped to delete multiple contacts at once.
