The day before yesterday, AMD greeted us with their upcoming Ryzen 7000 CPUs along with the new and fancy AM5 socket. You can read more about this here. Today, more information has surfaced regarding the -X3D variants of these CPUs.
Ryzen 7000
AMD’s Ryzen 7000 lineup initially consists of just 4 CPUs namely:
- Ryzen 9 7950X
- Ryzen 9 7900X
- Ryzen 7 7700X
- Ryzen 5 7600X
Greymon on Twitter shared a cryptic tweet pointing towards the -X3D variants for the Zen4 CPUs which are still yet to hit the market. The leaked information points towards 3 CPUs featuring AMD’s 3D stacked L3 cache technology.
- Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- Ryzen 9 7900X3D
- Ryzen 7 7800X3D

An Overview Regarding the X3D Design
AMD’s -X3D technology essentially stacks cache in a vertical manner allowing for insane amounts of L3 cache which boost performance significantly. This has been seen with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D which crushed even the i9-12900KS in select games.
AMD may announce the higher end SKUs such as the R9 7950X3D/7900X3D first and then the Ryzen 7 counterpart for the mainstream market. As for the design, the Zen3 based Ryzen 7 5800X3D featured a single Zen3 CCD with 64MB of LLC (Last level cache) stacked on top of it. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D may see the same treatment, however, expect 2 CCDs for the higher end variants.
Cache Improvement
If we take the pre-existing cache values for the Zen4 CPUs and add additional -X3D cache on top of it, then we get the following results:
- Ryzen 9 7950X3D (80MB) + (64MB 3D V-Cache) = 144MB (1.8x increase)
- Ryzen 9 7900X3D (76MB) + (64MB 3D V-Cache) = 140MB (1.8x increase)
- Ryzen 7 7800X3D (40MB) + (64MB 3D V-Cache) = 104MB (2.6x increase)
Release Date
Adding on to that, Greymon takes this leak to a new level by giving us an expected release date. The -X3D variants may be announced during CES 2023, which is set to take place on the 5th of Jaunary, 2023. However, we cannot say for sure if team red is keen on announcing all the -X3D variants.
