Apple to Include Stage Manager in Previous iPad Models

The upcoming iPadOS 16 update from Apple might arrive in October and bring a tonne of new features. Stage Manager was one of the key features that Apple unveiled at its WWDC event. However, only iPad devices with an M1 processor were used in the development of the new capability. It appears like Apple is finally altering its mind following several concerns.

According to the most recent information, Stage Manager will be supported by iPad Pro models released in 2018 and later generations, according to Engadget. The restriction in this case is that an external display is not compatible. Additionally, the business is discontinuing support for Stage Manager’s external display for M1 iPad models.

That changes with the latest iPadOS 16 developer beta, which was just released. Now, Apple is making Stage Manager work with a number of older devices: it’ll work on the 11-inch iPad Pro (first generation and later) and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (third generation and later). Specifically, it’ll be available on the 2018and 2020 models that use the A12X and A12Z chips rather than just the M1.

However, there is one notable missing feature for the older iPad Pro models — Stage Manager will only work on the iPad’s build-in display. You won’t be able to extend your display to an external monitor.

The 2018 and 2020 iPad Pro models were unable to benefit from Stage Manager prior to today. Apple’s A12Z and A12Z processors are used in the two variants, respectively. Older iPad Pro units won’t be able to provide sufficient performance with the new multitasking interface, claims Apple.

This is so that the functionality may be used, which necessitates “huge internal memory, highly fast storage, and flexible external display I/O,” all of which are given by Apple’s M1 chip in new iPads.

It’s encouraging to see that Apple has addressed the complaints after restricting the capability to the newest iPad devices equipped with an M1 chip.
