The i9-13900K Is Up to 22% Faster Than AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X As Per Intel

Intel’s Raptor Lake K-SKUs will retail by the 20th of October. When Intel announced the i9-13900K, AMD’s Zen4 based CPUs were not available for an apples to apples comparison. Therefore, Intel compared their top-notch CPUs against the 5950X and the 5800X3D. Today, Videocardz got their hands on a slide from Intel showcasing how the 13900K performs against the Zen4 based 7950X.

i9-13900K vs Ryzen 9 7950X

The i9-13900K as per Intel is up to 58% faster than AMD’s best Zen3 offering. However, the 5800X3D does take the spotlight from Intel. When put up against the 7950X, Intel retains its lead by an average of around 10%. However, these may be cherry picked so the only verification would be when the reviews go live.

Similarly, moving over to productivity, Intel claims that its silicon is more often than not, better than AMD. The largest difference comes in Autodesk Revit where the 13900K is 16% faster than the 7950X. Do note that these tests do not factor in the power consumption or the temperatures. Although, we expect Intel’s chips to be cooler than AMD’s because of how Zen4 is designed. Efficiency wise, AMD will most probably remain ahead.

Specifications

The Intel Core i9-13900K powered by 24 (8P + 16E) cores and 32 threads. Out of the box, you can experience a base frequency of 3.0GHz and 2.2GHz across the performance and efficient cores, respectively.

If you have a capable enough motherboard, Intel’s Thermal Velocity Boost can pump up the clocks to an insanely fast 5.8GHz across a single Performance core on the 13900K. That is 10% higher than the i9-12900K. Intel’s Thermal Velocity Boost is exclusive to the i9-12900KS and the i9-13900K.

The 13900K/KF is fueled by 32MB of L2 Cache (2.2x more than the 12900K) and 36MB of L3 Cache (1.2x more than the 12900K). This amounts up to a total of 68MB of cache which is slightly lower than AMD’s Ryzen 9 7950X (80MB). All this power, comes in at the same TDP of 125W (Max Turbo Power of 253W).

All yours for $589, starting from the 20th of October.

CPU Cores/Threads TDP Cache CPU Clocks (Performance Cores) MSRP
i9-13900K 24/32 125W/253W 68MB (32MB L2 + 36MB L3) 3.0GHz/5.8GHz $589
i7-13700K 16/24 125W/253W 56MB (26MB L2 + 30MB L3) 3.4GHz/5.4GHz $409
i5-13600K 14/20 125W/181W 44MB (20MB L2 + 24MB L3) 3.5GHz/5.1GHz $319
