Never Before Seen RTX 3070 Ti Surfaces With 16GB of VRAM

Last year, it came to light that NVIDIA will launch a few GPUs namely the RTX 3080 12GB and the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB. As time passed, only the RTX 3080 12GB was launched. Today, MEGAsizeGPU shared a few pictures of the rare and never-before-seen RTX 3070 Ti 16GB.

RTX 3070 Ti 16GB

The RTX 3070 Ti 16GB featured NVIDIA’s GA104-401 GPU with specs similar to the RTX 3070 Ti. For some context, the original 3070 Ti shipped with just 8GB of G6X memory. As Intel Arc was making headlines, NVIDIA was quick to respond. However, sadly, this GPU never saw the light of day. The extra VRAM might have been a nice addition for those that want a future-proof GPU.

In GPU-Z, we see that this particular variant is packed with 16GB of GDDR6 memory. The GPU has a base clock of 1.59GHz, which goes up to 1.8GHz, or slightly faster than the base 3070 Ti. The most interesting part is that this GPU uses GDDR6, not GDDR6X memory. That will result in lower bandwidth, which affects the performance.

A few in-real-life images show that this GPU is a prototype variant. Labeled ‘RTX 3070’ at the back, it might have been a very early model. In any case, the design is similar to most Ampere FE GPUs.

In contrast to the Ada lineup, the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB is a relatively thin GPU. It features a 1×12-pin power connector. The TDP might have been almost similar to the RTX 3070 Ti 8GB. It is surprising that this leak comes just days before the RTX 4080 12GB sorry, the RTX 4070 Ti’s reveal. One important note is that this GPU was probably aimed at crypto-miners. However, as the market did and is taking massive losses, NVIDIA decided to take a step back.
