Reportedly, Samsung Securities expected unit sales of 5 million from The Callisto Protocol, but after analyzing the initial response, the firm didn’t even expect it to cross 2 million cumulative sales by the end of 2022.
Similarly, Korea Investment & Securities lowered the expected sales target from 4 million units to 2 million after the launch of The Callisto Protocol. The reason for the poor sales performance of The Callisto Protocol was its short game length, linear gameplay, and no noticeable innovation, which led to low user and critics ratings.
And now, going by the report by GamesIndustry.biz, Dead Space Remake has sold even less than half of the sales of The Callisto Protocol. Some factors that should be noted before concluding anything is that The Callisto Protocol was also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On the other hand, Dead Space Remake is a true next-gen title, released only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Other than that, GamesIndustry.biz’s sales data for Dead Space Remake includes only the physical unit sales. The digital sales data is expected to arrive next week, making it much easier to compare the two titles more comprehensively.
Furthermore, Dead Space Remake release week was populated with game releases like Forspoken and Hi-Fi Rush. And lastly, horror survival fans might have decided to pass on the Dead Space Remake, considering the letdown by The Callisto Protocol, which was one of the most anticipated horror survival games of 2022.
