Google to Host an AI-Based Event on February 8th, ChatGPT Rival Expected to be Announced

Google will soon provide more information on its artificial intelligence efforts. The event will be held next week and will focus on how Google is “using the power of AI to reinvent how people search for, explore and interact with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to get what you need,” according to an invitation provided to The Verge. On February 8 at 8:30 AM ET, a live feed of the 40-minute event will be available on YouTube.

The event’s timing is noteworthy considering that Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently said that the firm would soon allow users to “interact directly” with its “newest, most powerful language models as a companion to search.” Microsoft, which is said to be intending to integrate ChatGPT into Bing, is putting pressure on Google, which has long been the de facto method of finding information on the internet. That would enable Bing to provide more insightful summaries and results, something Google has had trouble doing.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, had an earnings call on February 3. Furthermore, the CEO said during the same earnings conference that “very soon, users will be able to directly interact with our newest, most powerful language models as a companion to Search in experimental and innovative ways.”

Google offers a wide range of AI tools. The majority of them, however, are private. It’s also noteworthy to note that Google already has a chatbot named “LaMDA.” Another AI model for creating images is called “Imagen.” And as you may anticipate, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DALL-E essentially provide these two. The primary distinction, though, is that OpenAI’s products are available to the general public whereas Google kept both of them a secret.

Google employees are reportedly testing “Apprentice Bard,” an AI chatbot that works similarly to ChatGPT and responds to queries with natural English, as reported by CNBC. In order to create Bard, Google used its LaMDA technology, which is related to the GPT series of AI language models that ChatGPT itself uses. The ability to discuss current events is allegedly one of Bard’s biggest advantages versus ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Utilizing AI Technology to Describe its Features

According to CNBC, Google is also experimenting with several layouts for its home page, one of which substitutes question prompts for the “I’m feeling lucky” button. Unsurprisingly, this layout sounds a lot like ChatGPT’s site, which offers sample queries, available features, and available constraints above a search or dialogue box.

The invitation mentions Google Lens, Translate, Shopping, and Maps, so it’s probable that the presentation may focus more on things we’re already acquainted with. It would be difficult to criticize if the program just focused on minor adjustments to those tools since such changes may have a significant impact on some of the millions of users.
