Over at bilibili, user Zhongzheng evaluation has tested a laptop featuring NVIDIA’s RTX 4060M. It is to be noted that these laptops will retail in just a few days so these results give as an indication of the performance. The tested laptop features Intel’s i9-13900HX along with the RTX 4060M 8GB (140W).
RTX 4060M Benchmark
The laptop (Thunderbolt Zero) used contains the i9-13900HX (24 cores / 32 threads) along with 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory. In terms of storage, the laptop uses 512GB SSD and the RTX 4060M. The RTX 4060M has a TGP of 140W which is quite high for such a GPU. Read our previous coverage for more insight regarding these GPUs.
The GPU-Z screenshot for the RTX 4060M is present below. This GPU is packed with 8GB of memory over a 128-bit memory bus for a memory bandwidth of 256GB/s. The base GPU clocks stand at 2.115GHz which can go as high as 2.37GHz.
Moving over to AIDA64, the user also benchmarked the memory on the right and the GPU on the left. The RTX 4060 has a single-precision score of around 15363 GFLOPS or 15.3 TFLOPS which is quite impressive.
Time Spy sees the RTX 4060M scores 10359 points which is a respective score. This puts it just below the RTX 3070 Ti (laptop) from Ampere. The i9-13900HX on the other hand scores 14037 on the same test.
For reference, the user created a graph to showcase the relative performance of NVIDIA’s mid-range 4060M. It is around 18.8% faster than the RTX 3060M but falls short of the RTX 3070 Ti and the desktop 6750XT, though that is expected. Given the higher TGP, we expected the GPU to perform slightly better.
We can’t forget the CPU now can we? The i9-13900HX in Cinebench R23 attains 27204 points in the multi core test. This is an extremely competitive result, putting the 13900HX just below the i7-13700K.
Gaming Performance
Let’s talk about the gaming performance of this device. The user tested a wide variety of games so we’ll quickly go over them one by one.
In Cyberpunk 2077 at 2K using the highest settings, with RT off and DLSS/FSR, this laptop can push 70.65 FPS. Since the 3060 can only score 56 FPS that puts the RTX 4060 at a lead of 20%. In fact, this result is actually faster than the desktop RTX 3060.
While it is true that every gamer enjoys extra frames, you reach a point of diminishing returns. In CS:GO, the 4060M pulls ahead of the 3060M by a whopping 43%.
Moving over to RDR2 at 2K with the highest preset, the 4060 obtains 60.9 FPS. This score is 11% faster than the desktop RTX 3060.
Conclusion
While the initial Time Spy score might have disappointed many, the 4060M is actually faster than a desktop 3060 in games. The 140W TGP, however, kind of explains that increase in performance. In any case, we are bound to see more RTX 4050/4060/4070 tests in the coming week. Stay tuned at Appuals for more information.
