Xiaomi Showcases its Wireless AR Smart Glass With Several Distinctive Features

In addition to serving as a venue for the debut of market-ready devices, Mobile World Congress also serves as a showcase for new product concepts and prototypes from some of the world’s leading IT companies.

And even though Xiaomi recently conducted a formal launch event for its Xiaomi 13 series two days ago, the company made another unexpected announcement today: a set of augmented reality glasses that use more sophisticated technology than any other AR glasses that are now available.

Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Explorer Edition is the brand’s official name for the item, which has a silver finish rather than being all-black and resembles a large pair of Terminator sunglasses. The glasses include two Micro-OLED panels, one for each eye, that produce full HD images at a brightness of 1,200 nits. The front of the glasses include three forward-facing cameras that are used to map the area directly in front of the user.

The glasses weigh just 126g, which is impressive given their size and the cutting-edge components they include. Xiaomi claims that by using lightweight components like carbon fibre, magnesium alloy, and a silicon-oxygen anode battery that is smaller than a standard lithium-ion battery, it was able to keep the weight low.

The Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 CPU from Qualcomm powers the eyewear. It doesn’t have any storage built in, thus in order to utilize it, a host device must be attached.

In the press shots, the glasses are shown with two sizable cameras on the left and right sides and a little one in the centre. It is anticipated that all three sensors will be in charge of sending visual input and transforming it into simulations for the user. Three cameras on a pair of glasses may not be enough when compared to Apple’s alleged augmented reality headgear, which is said to include a staggering 15 cameras.

The glasses are fully wireless, as the name suggests. Xiaomi claims that their “unique low-latency communication connection,” which links to smartphones, has a latency of only 50 ms, which is quick enough that you can hardly detect any lag.

Moreover, the Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass has electrochromic lenses that can be made completely black at the touch of a button. The concept is that you want the lenses to be transparent while wearing the AR content glasses so you can view the outside world.

However for a more immersive experience while viewing a movie, you may choose to have the material play over a dark screen. There is a physical lens cover that you put into the existing AR glasses from nReal or TCL. A physical cover is not necessary for Xiaomi’s.

The Wireless AR Glass Exploration Edition’s launch schedule was disappointing, and neither the price nor the release date were provided. It’s probable that the Chinese manufacturer chose to draw attention to potential future goods just for the purpose of publicity.

In any event, let us know in the comments what you think of Xiaomi’s efforts. Apple lags behind the competition, but only because the tech giant does not want to release a product that is only partially complete after spending possibly millions on research and development.
