Google has decided to kill "Now Launcher" after almost ten years. It was revealed in the latest beta of the Google App (v14.14).
In the past, the application helped people access Google Now cards easily, but it lost popularity with the release of new features and technologies. After 2017, Google shifted its focus to the Pixel Launcher on its phones and made Google Now Launcher available for OEM launchers. The company rolled out a couple of updates, but it turned its attention to different tools and features, like the Pixel Launcher and Assistant.
Revealed in the latest beta of the Google app
In the latest beta of the Google app, it was found that devices that use the Google Now Launcher will get a message saying, "Your launcher will change to your device's default launcher." As seen in the image below, the message says that "Google Now Launcher will stop working in April."
Most of the current devices don't even have the technology, and it was expected that Google would sooner or later shut it down. There aren't as many GNL users as it was back in the day. People usually choose better and newer technologies to make their lives easier. Don't update your Google app if you don't want to lose it, and keep things as they are. However, it is usually better to use the latest technologies and features.
Google Now Launcher is a feature developed for Android devices. It was first available only for Nexus and Google Play Edition devices when it was introduced in 2014. Google then made it available for all Android 4.1+ devices. The launcher is made to offer a user-friendly, uncluttered interface. However, its popularity later for three years, after Google decided to move on and concentrate on different projects.
GNL has lost many users over the years, and it seems Google wants to stop caring about it.
