Counter-Strike 2 Season 5 Update Adds Cache to Premier, Reworks C4 Damage, and Adds New Armory Collections

Valve has announced the release of Counter-Strike 2 Premier Season 5. The update reintroduces Cache to the Active Duty map pool and modifies how C4 explosion damage is calculated.

It also adds new Armory weapon and sticker collections. After the IEM Cologne 2026 Major, the update features five community maps, engine improvements, and various fixes. Cache has now replaced Overpass in the Active Duty rotation.

Cache Returns to Active Duty and C4 Damage Changes

Cache has returned to the competitive Counter-Strike lineup after being reintroduced into CS2 earlier this year. Players have had the opportunity to practice the map in both casual and competitive modes, and it is now part of the Premier rotation.

Overpass has been removed from the Active Duty pool. The current Active Duty map pool now includes Cache along with the seven other maps used for competitive play.

The main gameplay change in Season 5 is a complete overhaul of how C4 bomb explosion damage is calculated. Instead of applying damage instantly across the entire blast radius, the explosion now spreads as a shockwave from the bomb site.

Key details of this change include:

  • Damage values are precomputed through simulation and embedded directly into each map.
  • The shockwave expands quickly from the center of the blast rather than applying damage immediately.
  • The wave dissipates around corners and does not pass through walls.
  • Players farther away have a better chance to survive by running away.
  • A preview appears on the player's health bar, showing how they would fare if the bomb went off.

This health bar preview is the most significant change for competitive play. Previously, players had to rely on their knowledge of the game to estimate whether they would survive a bomb explosion.

Even professional players sometimes misjudged, costing rounds for themselves and their teams. The new preview allows players to confirm their safety before making decisions to hold positions or attempt saves.

New Armory Collections and Five Community Maps

Valve has added the Arabesque and Spy Tech weapon collections to the CS2 Armory. Both collections were developed through Valve's 2025 Call to Arm-ory community design initiative.

  • Arabesque features intricate designs and gold textures, evoking royalty themes.
  • Spy Tech offers modern, line-based technological designs.

Two new sticker collections have also been introduced:

  • Fruits and Vegetables, and
  • Auto Racing.

The following collections have been rotated out of the Armory:

  • Train 2025 and Sport and Field weapon collections, as well as
  • Sugarface 2 and Elemental Craft sticker collections.

Season 5 introduces five community-created maps to CS2, available across multiple game modes:

  • Boulder,
  • Fachwerk, and
  • Shelter are playable in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch modes, while
  • Debris and
  • El Dorado are available in Wingman mode.

These new maps replace Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum, which have been removed from all game modes.

Engine Update, Performance Gains, and What Players Should Do

Valve has updated CS2 to the latest version of Source 2. The patch notes did not specify any performance or visual enhancements resulting from the engine update.

Additional improvements include better performance when the Scoreboard is displayed using the Tab key, various visual bug fixes, and changes to clipping across all maps.

The performance boost for the Scoreboard is especially useful for solo queue players who frequently check their kill-death ratio during matches.

For CS2 players preparing for Season 5, start by restarting Steam to ensure the update downloads properly:

  1. Review cache callouts and strategies if you're returning to the map after a break.
  2. Practice with the new C4 explosion mechanics in casual or training modes before jumping into Premier.
  3. Check the Armory to view the Arabesque and Spy Tech collections.
  4. Try the new community maps in Competitive or Wingman queues. If you want to trade weapon skins from rotating collections, verify their current values beforehand, as demand can shift when collections leave the Armory.

The Counter-Strike 2 Season 5 update is now live on Steam. Players with the game installed will receive the update automatically. Those who haven't launched CS2 recently will need to let the update download fully before they can start matchmaking.

Valve hasn't announced any changes to the map pool or major adjustments beyond what is listed in the Season 5 patch notes.

Additional updates may be released later to fix bugs or balance issues discovered during the season. Players can keep an eye on the official Counter-Strike blog for any future updates.
