Blizzard Entertainment announced the return of StarCraft with a new open-world shooter which will be released in 2030 during the Opening Ceremony of BlizzCon 2026.
This is the series' first new game in nearly ten years and represents a move away from the strategy games which established StarCraft as a well-known name.
The game is titled StarCraft and is being headed by Dan Hay, former executive producer of Far Cry. Beyond a first trailer there are few details, the release being framed by an open-world shooter.
"Here we are finally making StarCraft," Hay said on stage.

The statement confirmed that the game is titled StarCraft, that it is an open-world shooter, and that Dan Hay is in charge of it having previously been the executive producer on Far Cry; additionally, Blizzard presented a debut cinematic trailer to set the tone. Apart from that, no further information is available.
StarCraft (2030) is the first game in the series after StarCraft Remastered in 2017 and the first entirely new entry since the single-player DLC StarCraft: Nova Covert Ops in 2016.
Blizzard has not been the first time it has tried to adapt its strategy series into a shooter; the StarCraft: Ghost project was indeed being developed decades ago for the PS2, the original Xbox, and the GameCube as a stealth-shooter, but it was eventually quietly canceled.
The more up-to-date reports suggest that Nexon could be developing another game in the series, even though this new StarCraft seems to be unrelated.
The 2030 version of StarCraft is aiming for a 2030 launch. Blizzard has not specified a particular date, platforms, or provided any gameplay details other than the description of an open-world shooter and the announcement trailer. The company states that further information will be posted on the official StarCraft website over time.
