CD Projekt releases The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on September 29 as a free update for existing owners on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Ahead of launch, the studio published an official list of every change in the remaster, grouped into visual, combat, quality of life, and miscellaneous improvements. The update is about 45GB, and the existing expansions are bundled with the Remastered edition.
"Remastered is the first release of its kind for The Witcher 3," CD Projekt said in its note to the media, adding that the skill tree has been entirely rebuilt.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Release Times and Download Size
The update unlocks on a rolling schedule that is the same for PC and consoles:
- West Coast US: 3 am PDT
- East Coast US: 6 am EDT
- UK: 11 am BST
- Central Europe: 12 pm CEST
- Australia: 8 pm AEST
- New Zealand: 11 pm NZDT
Because the remaster is an update to the existing game, there is no preload on most platforms. Battle.net is the exception, since The Witcher 3 is arriving on that platform for the first time. Players should prepare before September 29:
- Free up at least 45GB of storage on the drive or console where The Witcher 3 is installed.
- Make sure automatic updates are enabled, or check the game page manually once the unlock time passes in the region.
- On Battle.net, start the preload ahead of release.
Visual, Combat, and Quality of Life Changes in the Remaster
CD Projekt lists improved textures for environments, NPCs, and monsters, reworked foliage, and new lighting, rendering, and ray tracing. Path tracing is exclusive to the PC version. On PS5 Pro, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) enables 60 frames per second with ray tracing turned on.
Combat gets revamped animations, new finishers, and an adaptive camera. All five witcher signs (Aard, Igni, Yrden, Quen, and Axii) have new visual effects, and common enemies such as wolves and drowners react differently thanks to updated behavior. The reimagined skill system adds new abilities and replaces the old progression tree.
Quality of life changes include new movement animations for Geralt and Roach, reworked witcher senses that reveal clues only when players focus on the right elements, a refreshed main menu and notifications, and transmog, which lets weapons and armor take on a different look without losing their stats.
The miscellaneous category covers an expanded photo mode, cross-platform mod support through mod.io, and Bard's Ballad, an accessibility option for players with cognitive limitations such as attention deficits that adjusts selected gameplay elements, for example with automatic self-healing.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version adds motion controls for signs, the crossbow, bombs, potions, and Roach, along with gyro aiming, a mouse mode, and touchscreen support for the map, menus, and Gwent.
The Battle.net version is the only edition that can be downloaded before launch. Players on every other platform start the roughly 45GB download once the update unlocks in their region.
