Death Stranding Director’s Cut to Utilize the DualSense’s Capabilities for a More Immersive Experience

Death Stranding, the highly polarizing debut title of Kojima Productions, has confirmed the upcoming release of its Director’s Cut version for the PlayStation 5. Numerous changes have already been confirmed for this specific version and one that is particularly anticipated is how the action game will utilize the brand-new features of the next-generation console. One such feature is its DualSense controller. Kojima Productions have confirmed that through the DualSense’ sophisticated features, players will have a much more immersive experience of the dystopic United States landscape.

The official Kojima Productions Japanese Twitter profile has confirmed that through the DualSense’ haptic feedback, players will be able to better feel Sam Bridges’ journey through the game’s harsh environment and weather such as torrential rain and winds. Also, through the DualSense’ built-in speakers, players will get to experience another facet of immersion even through the simple actions of moving through grass, rivers, and snow. The controller’s Adaptive triggers are now also at the whim of the players in this Director’s Cut version, allowing users to  customize the strength and sensitivity of the triggers, and even providing the option to turn it off entirely.

Since its announcement during the Summer Games’ Fest, Death Stranding Director’s Cut has consistently provided its fans more information about what to expect from the star-studded title. Some of these changes include a drastically changed visual experience that was technically ‘impractical‘ on the previous console generation. Specifically, players will be able to choose from two options: a performance mode with upscaled 4K resolution and a 60 FPS target and a Fidelity Mode which will offer native 4K resolution and a much lower target frame rate, likely to be at 30 FPS.

Other new additions include an overhaul of its combat mechanics, new challenges for players to beat, and the option to replay specific boss fights. Perhaps the most eye-catching is it’s planned racing mode named the Fragile Circuit. This would allow players to compete against each other in time trials using both old and new vehicles.

For players who already own the PS4 version of Death Stranding, they will be able to get the PS5 Death Stranding Director’s Cut Digital Deluxe Edition Upgrade for only 10 USD (10 EUR). This seems very reasonable considering that this isn’t your typical “remaster” but will include tons of content such as new missions to complete, areas to explore, and storylines to uncover.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is set to launch for the PS5 on September 24, 2021.
