Official Job Listings on Sucker Punch’s Website Points Towards A Possible Ghost of Tsushima 2 in the Works

PlayStation Studios has been on a roll as of late. The company’s new business strategy is to release as many exclusive titles on PC as possible to cash in on that Master Race crowd. But PlayStation carefully chooses to only release old games on PC, never new ones. Case in point, Horizon Zero Dawn was made available on PC just in time for when the hype for its sequel, which was exclusive to PS5 and still is, was starting to build up.

This way, PC gamers get to enjoy some great games that come with the added zest of being an ex-exclusive. But, at the same time, Sony lures them in, and now they’re hooked and invested in this new world. But to explore more, they need to get the sequel and for that, they need to jump on board the PlayStation ship and get the console. It’s basically a deliberate trap.

So far, most of the modern PlayStation exclusives have made their way to (or about to) PC. These include classics like God of War, Last Of Us, Uncharted, and even Spider-Man. However, one game has notably avoided this mass porting and that’s Ghost of Tsushima

The action-stealth Samurai adventure hit PS4s back in 2020 and has since seen a lot of critical and commercial acclaim with the game even receiving a full-on standalone multiplayer experience as DLC, all for free. It’s safe to say that Ghost of Tsushima is Sucker Punch’s biggest game to date and a highly-celebrated entry in the family of PlayStation exclusives.

And that’s exactly why rumors of a possible sequel in the making pose interesting implications for the original. If the rumors and reports are indeed true then it would suggest that Ghost of Tsushima is likely to hit PC very soon. After all, it wouldn’t make sense to keep just one game off of the other platform, especially given if a sequel is coming that would entice players to shell out for a brand new PS5.

Ghost of Tsushima 2?

A new thread over on the ResetEra forums has pointed out possibilities of a Ghost of Tsushima 2 by bringing some new job listings into the light. The thread is derived from info originally discovered by Tech4Gamers a few days back regarding the same job listings. While there are a number of openings on Sucker Punch’s website, a good amount of them have elements that could pertain to our interest.

There are two job listings, one for a Senior Combat Designer and the another for Technical Combat Design that include some very interesting descriptions. Both of these posts require the developers to have “played previously shipped Sucker Punch titles” which right away tells us that this is a new game in an established franchise.

Now, Ghost of Tsushima is far from Sucker Punch’s first major IP. The studio was behind both the Sly Cooper series and the recent Infamous games, so they’re no stranger to working on a large scale. Therefore, these listings could be hinting at a revival of either of those franchises rather than Ghost of Tsushima.

After all, rumors surrounding a new Infamous game being announced last year were aplenty and a new Sly Cooper game has been reported on for ages at this point. That being said, if you look at the specifics of the job descriptions, you’ll notice that they ask for technical combat experience saying “experience working on gameplay or combat in a 3rd person action game”.

That screams Ghost of Tsushima to me, unless Sucker Punch has decided to work on another GOT-like action game for some reason. What really seals the deal is the third job listing that was spotted and that’s for “Encounter Designer”. The job description reads:

Deliver interesting and varied encounters in an open world game, with a particular focus on melee combat and stealth.

If nothing mentioned so far convinced you that Ghost of Tsushima 2 is in development, this should do it. That sentence perfectly encapsulates the whole gameplay aspect of Ghost of Tsushima. Moreover, the descriptions also includes mentions of this project being an open-world AAA game which just seals the deal, honestly.

Now, the reason why we aren’t jumping out our seats in excitement over all this is because there has been no official confirmation from Sucker Punch, PlayStation or Sony regarding a GOT sequel in the works. Usually, game studios announce way ahead in advance that a sequel has been green-lit and production is to begin soon, but we have received no word regarding that for Ghost of Tsushima 2.

However, in this industry some announcements are best kept as surprises and perhaps this could be one. Best case scenario, we get a new Ghost of Tsushima game and everybody rejoices. Worst case scenario, this could be another AAA action-stealth game from the genius minds over at Sucker Punch. Either way, it’s a win-win situation and we can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.
