Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Real-Life Pictures Leak: Smaller Crease and Hinge, Bigger Battery & New Processor But Unchanged Screen

When it comes to the still-infant world of foldables, Samsung is the benchmark. Sure, there have been remarkable efforts made from the likes of Vivo, Oppo, Huawei, and others, but none stack up to the mainstream “full-package” appeal of the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip lineup. Mostly because these phones are marketed more as bleeding-edge flagships these days rather than futuristic prototypic technology.

The latest in Samsung’s family of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3, have been out for quite some time now. Newer phones with better internals have superseded them at this point. That being said, the next generation of Samsung foldables is right around the corner and leaks have been floating around town for a while now. But today we finally get our first real-life look at one of Samsung’s upcoming foldables; the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 breakdown

This leak comes courtesy of TechTalkTV, who shared real pictures of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 on Twitter and also went over some of the spec upgrades we can expect from Samsung’s next foldable in a YouTube video. Of course, since this is a leak and not coming from any official source, I have to preface all of what you’re about to see with a big fat disclaimer. Take everything with a grain of salt, even if these pictures looking all but official.

As you can see in the photos above, the device looks nearly identical to the current Z Flip 3, bar a few minor differences. First of all, the overall design is the same with no discernible visual changes. The cover screen on the back is actually a little big bigger, according to the leaker, but they mention you’ll only notice that if you actually put both phones side-by-side and compare them.

Moreover, the hinge is also much smaller this time around, leading to reduced weight. It’s significantly thinner compared to last-gen which also gives the device a sleeker look. However, there is a still a very noticeable gap between the top and bottom of the phone when folded closed.

The cameras are also said to perform identically to last year’s model with Samsung even using the same sensors as it did in the Z Flip 3. Therefore, we can expect a 12MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra wide lens, and a 10MP front camera situated in the hole punch.

Speaking of which, as you can see in the picture below, the hole punch cutout is the exact same as last year with no reduction in size. The bezels of the device, on the other hand, are ever-so-slightly smaller but the black frame of the phone makes them look thicker than they actually are. More importantly, the screen size is also unchanged at 6.7-inches

However, perhaps the biggest upgrade made over the Z Flip 3 is the crease in the front. Rumors were already afloat that Samsung has made the crease much, much shallower this time around and it looks like they were right.  The aforementioned picture shows a nearly hidden crease in the front display.

This is one of the main gripes of Samsung’s foldables; despite being the prevalent phones in this niche, they actually often pack the worst creases out of all contenders. But it looks like now this sin is finally getting rectified.

Finally, the battery life has gotten a massive uplift with the leaker describing it as “great“. This is thanks to not only a bigger 3700mAh battery, up from 3300mAh in the Z Flip 3, but also the use of a more “efficient” chip. This is an interesting claim by the leaker because the Z Flip 4 will most likely be using the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, which is not particularly well-known for its efficiency chops.

Moreover, Samsung will also be upping the fast charging capabilities of the device from 15W in the Z Flip 3 to, now, 25W in the Z Flip 4.

And that about wraps it up for this real-life look at the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It does feel like Samsung is following more of a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” type of approach but there are some real generational improvements here. Soon, more leaks like this will start pouring in, giving us a good idea of what the device will look like before it’s actually here. Till then, this is about the best we’ve got.
