Google Pixel Tablet Images & Specifications Surfaces Online, “Pro” Variant Reportedly Cancelled

The Pixel Tablet, Google’s first tablet, was on display at the I/O 2022 conference in May 2022. The tablet will only come in one version, implying the Pro version has been abandoned, according to recent information provided by Android analyst and tipper Kuba Wojciechowski

According to rumoursan, the codenames for the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Tablet Pro are “Tangor” and “Tangorpro,” respectively. New data from Wojciechowski demonstrates that these two versions are powered by the Tensor G2 and Tensor 1 chips. Additionally, pictures of the rumored Pixel Tablet were posted online when it was posted on Facebook Marketplace by an unknown source.

Wojciechowski asserts that the Pixel Tablet being developed as tangor uses a first-generation Tensor CPU whereas Tangorpro uses the Tensor G2 processor used in Google’s Pixel 7 smartphones. The version of Tangor being developed using Google’s first-generation Tensor CPU, according to Wojciechowski, has been abandoned in favour of continuing to build the Pixel Tablet utilising the Tensor G2. Wojciechowski claims that the Pixel Tablet that will be shipped this year is the “pro,” with Tensor G2 and no other substantial hardware changes.

Wojciechowski also revealed further details on Google’s upcoming tablet. He quotes an unnamed source as saying that the Pixel Tablet features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage “as tested.” When combined with the Tensor G2 processor, it may imply the tablet will ship at a higher price point than we previously anticipated. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 with 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage sells for $780, and that tablet doesn’t come with a charging station.

Wojciechowski claims that the Pixel Tablet’s display will be 2,560 x 1,600 pixels in resolution and most likely be an LCD screen as opposed to an OLED. That seems reasonable, especially given the tablet’s alleged dual use as a smart display. Backlighting for the display is provided by a Richtek RT4539 six-channel LED driver, which is supplied by China Star Optoelectronics (CSOT).

The Pixel Tablet’s precise release date is still unknown; all Google has said so far is that it plans to release the tablet this year.
