While companies like Samsung and Apple have only recently arrived at 30W fast charging, Chinese manufacturers have been releasing phones with 120W fast charging, and even a few with 150W charging. Now according to a recent leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, OPPO is preparing to launch a smartphone with a whopping 240W fast charging support by the first quarter of 2023.
The company announced the 150W SUPERVOOC and the 240W SUPERVOOC technologies at the 2022 Mobile World Congress event. OnePlus 10T even received the 150W SuperVOOC charging tech when it launched earlier this year, although we are yet to see a phone with the 240W SuperVOOC technology.
Due to the growing demand for high efficiency charging solutions in the era of 5G intelligent connectivity, OPPO has further pushed the limits of high-power flash charge and launched 240W SUPERVOOC. This new technology can charge a 4500mAh battery to 100% in about 9 minutes.
Oppo’s 150W fast charging utilizes two charge pumps, which is essentially a kind of DC-to-DC converter to achieve higher voltages. The 240W SUPERVOOC tech on the other hand is powered by three charge pumps, most likely with 80W (10V/24A) on each channel.
240W SUPERVOOC is designed with 24V/10A technology on the Type-C interface. It boasts three charge pumps and the power supplied to the handsets can be converted to 10V/24A. It conforms to the existing device specifications and has been tested in terms of heat dissipation, guaranteeing optimal efficiency and enhanced safety. Furthermore, the battery’s leading discharge rating allows the hardware to support a maximum of 240W.
Other Chinese phone manufacturers are also not holding back, and Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition with 210W fast charging. While the 210W seems quantitively lower than Oppo’s upcoming 240W charging, the 0-100 charge times won’t likely differ a lot as even the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition manages to top out its battery under 9 minutes.
