Microsoft Sets November 10 as the Final Security Update for Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise and Education

Microsoft has reminded organizations that Windows 11 version 23H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will stop receiving security updates after the November 2026 security update, which ships on November 10, according to a post in the Windows Message Center. The company recommends moving eligible devices to a supported version of Windows 11 before that date.

"The November 2026 Windows security update will be the last update available for these editions," Microsoft said in the message center update. Devices that stay on these editions afterward will no longer get the monthly security updates that protect against the latest threats.

Consumer editions are already past this point. Windows 11 23H2 Home and Pro reached end of support in November 2025, so the November 10 release closes out version 23H2 for the remaining business, school, and IoT editions.

Windows 11 23H2 End of Support and the Upgrade Path to 26H2

Microsoft points customers to Windows 11 26H2, also called the Windows 11 2026 Update. Version 26H2 became generally available in September 2026 as an enablement package and is supported for consumers until October 2029.

The 26H2 update is rolling out in phases to eligible Windows 11 devices that have the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" setting turned on. If the update is ready for a device, Microsoft says it downloads and installs automatically, and a single restart completes the process.

Users and administrators can also check for the update manually:

  1. Open Settings and go to Windows Update.
  2. Select "Check for updates".
  3. If the device is eligible, select "Download and install Windows 11, version 26H2" and restart when prompted.

Organizations managing larger fleets can confirm the servicing dates for each edition on Microsoft's Windows lifecycle FAQ page or with the Lifecycle Policy search tool, which list the support windows for every Windows 11 feature update.

Other Windows Support Deadlines Arriving This Month

The 23H2 reminder arrives during a crowded lifecycle period. Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions stop receiving updates this week, while the 24H2 Enterprise and Education editions remain under mainstream support until October 2027. Windows Server 2022 leaves mainstream support on Tuesday, October 13, and moves to extended support that runs until October 14, 2031.

Microsoft also warned last week that devices running unsupported Windows versions will stop getting security updates once the Windows Update certificates expire in 2027.

Home users still on Windows 10 have a separate option, since Microsoft extended the free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates program for home users until October 2027.

After November 10, PCs left on Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise, Education, or IoT Enterprise will run without monthly security fixes until they are moved to a supported Windows 11 release.
