It’s been about a year since we last saw and heard from Polyphony Digital on Gran Turismo 7. Today’s PlayStation Showcase finally broke that silence with a new in-depth trailer and a release date. Gran Turismo 7 is on track (no pun intended) for a March 24th release on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Gran Turismo is very highly-regarded in the racing simulator community as, arguably, the most realistic racing sim available next to Forza Motorsport. While GT has lost some of its pristine quality in the past few years, particularly due to the underwhelming GT Sport game, it looks like Polyphone is back with a vengeance to take the throne for the best racing sim.
The trailer gives us a thorough look at the ray-traced world of Gran Turismo 7. It’s shiny, it’s luxurious, it’s beautiful and it’s brimming with tons of cars. We also get our first glimpse of in-game menus including some footage of vehicle tuning and customization. Apart from that, the trailer also includes gameplay footage shown from the classic cockpit angle that GT is known for. And, some (likely) pre-rendered money shots that get really up and close with the internals of certain cars.
Kazunori Yamauchi, President Of Polyphony Digital and the creator of the Gran Turismo series himself goes in detail on the PlayStation Blog regarding the many intricacies of the game. According to him, the game is both a culmination of every GT game that has come before and a new beginning. The game aims to capture the car culture of the past 150 years while giving fans the gameplay they have come to expect from the series.
There are many elements that turned Gran Turismo into the household name that it is today, such as the Livery Editor and the various real-life legendary tracks, courses, and circuits available in-game. Kazunori talks about these in-depth in the blog post so head on over there to learn more. In addition, he also mentioned that more info will be revealed as the game inches closer to its March 24th release.
