NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 has seen its fair share of controversies around the inclusion of a 12VHPWR connector. Firslty, most renowned AIBs are only giving a maximum life-span of just 30 connects/disconnects. In addition, a few incidents have taken place where users are facing burnt RTX 4090 adaptors. Today, Kyle Bennett on Twitter announced that AMD’s Navi31 reference GPUs will not use this power adaptor.
After the @NVIDIAGeForce melting drama, I have verified through multiple sources that @Radeon Navi 31 ref cards will NOT use the 12VHPWR power adapter, and I could not verify any AIBs using 12VHPWR on N31 either. Picture in case you don’t know what a smoked 12VHPWR looks like.

AMD Dropping The 12VHPWR Connector
This is not the first time we’re hearing this. However, since the sources look almost accurate it is safe to assume that AMD will not use the PCIe Gen 5 adaptor. Previously, Technetium_Tech showcased a few RX 7900 XT renders, which included a 3×8 pin connector. Similarly, Angstronomics also made such claims a while back;
The reference card appears to have an updated 3-fan design that is slightly taller than the previous generation, with a distinctive 3 red stripe accent on a section of the heatsink fins near the dual 8-pin connectors.
Release Date
AMD will reveal their RDNA3 GPUs on the 3rd of November, which is less than 10 days away from us. We here at Appuals will keep you updated as each detail uncovers. Stay tuned as Navi31 is tipped to take NVIDIA’s performance throne.
