What is a Section Break? How to Insert it?

Introduction

Microsoft Word has many features, including tools that help with formatting and page layout. Long Word documents that are not properly formatted can be difficult to read. Section breaks are one way to format them and make the text easier to read.

What is a Section Break in Word?

A section break is a formatting feature in Microsoft Word that allows users to divide a document into separate sections, each with its own formatting settings. Section breaks are useful when you want to apply different page layouts, headers, footers, margins, or other formatting options to different parts of your document.

Types of Section Breaks

There are four types of Section Breaks in Microsoft Word:

  • Next Page Section Break: Inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next page. This is commonly used when you want to begin a new section on a fresh page.

  • Odd Page Section Break: Inserts a section break and starts the new section on the next odd-numbered page. This is useful when you want a section to always start on an odd page, such as for double-sided printing.
