Apple Announces Cheaper iPhone 17e Starting At $599

Apple has officially announced the new iPhone 17e, bringing meaningful upgrades to its more affordable iPhone lineup while, as expected, keeping the starting price at $599 ahead of the March 4 event.

The biggest changes include MagSafe support, doubled base storage, and a new “soft pink” color option.

MagSafe Finally Comes To The iPhone ‘e’ Model

Unlike last year’s iPhone 16e, which supported basic wireless charging without magnetic alignment, the iPhone 17e now includes full MagSafe features.

That means users can attach magnetic accessories like wallets, battery packs, and stands, while also benefiting from more reliable wireless charging alignment.

iPhone 17e Has An A19 Chip and a New Modem

Internally, the iPhone 17e is powered by Apple’s latest A19 chip - the same processor used in the base iPhone 17.

It also features Apple’s C1X modem, first introduced in the iPhone Air, offering up to 2x faster speeds compared to the C1 modem found in the 16e.

Double The Storage At The Same Price

Apple has kept the starting price at $599 but doubled the base storage:

  • 256GB for $599
  • 512GB for $799

For comparison, the 512GB iPhone 16e launched at $899, making this year’s model significantly more competitive in terms of value.

17e Model Launches With an Improved 4k Camera

The iPhone 17e includes a 48MP Fusion camera capable of next-generation portrait photography and 4K Dolby Vision video recording. Apple says the system enables an optical-quality 2x telephoto option, effectively delivering two focal lengths from a single lens.

Apple Is Betting On More Affordable Devices

One of the more notable shifts is Apple’s decision to update its entry-level model annually. Historically, the iPhone SE line went years between refreshes. With the move from iPhone 16e to 17e, Apple appears to be treating its lower-cost model more like a flagship device, with yearly upgrades.

iPhone 17e Colors and When Users Can Order It

The iPhone 17e comes in three colors: Black, White, and a new Soft Pink. Pre-orders begin March 4 at 6:15 a.m. PT / 9:15 a.m. ET. The device officially launches on March 11.

At $599 with 256GB storage and MagSafe included, the iPhone 17e positions itself as a much stronger value offering than its predecessor, and what last year’s model should have been from the start.
